Montgomery, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the United States. The population was 8,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of Cleveland metropolitan area. Montgomery has been coffee country for as long as anyone can remember. In 1892, George Washington Carver set up shop in what is now downtown Montgomery and began to sell beans from his carriages to people on Main Street. By 1903, there were five coffee houses in Montgomery and more than 60 customers per day! Cleveland's first coffee shop opened on Detroit Avenue between Superior and St Clair Streets in 1907. It was called "The Coffee House" because it served roasted beans from nearby Mt Pleasant Coffee Mill (now part of Peet's Coffee). The business closed its doors in 1917 but reopened two years later as "The Opry Restaurant". In 1922, The Opry became home to one of Cleveland’s first drive-in movie theaters when it opened at 15th Street and Euclid Avenue adjacent to the then Rheingold Brewery Company Ltd.. In 1951, Sam Adams Brewing Co., Inc., founded by three men who had worked at local breweries: John Hennessey (founder), Edward Robinson (head brewer) and Gordon Lightfoot (founder), relocated their brewing operations from Boston, Massachusetts to Cleveland. They named their new company after Samuel Adams' flagship brand – Boston Lager – but also created a new line of beers called Samuel Adams White Labs which were only available at their brewery until 1984 when they discontinued production altogether. At that point all Samuel Adams beer was brewed under license outside of North America except for one limited release each year – typically an imperial Stout or blond ale – which rotated among several dozen markets worldwide before reaching consumers exclusively through bottle-signing events throughout central Massachusetts during winter months. In 1795, James K. Polk and Thomas Jefferson were driving through this area on their way to New Orleans when they saw a field of beans and named it after the village in France where they had been born two years earlier.
Montgomery, Ohio is a small town in the state of Ohio located about 20 miles west of Cincinnati. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Montgomery is one of six townships in Cook County and its sole municipality. Montgomery is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Daytona Beach metro area. The first settler in Montgomery was James Crouse, who arrived in 1795. In 1801, John Funk built a cabin on what is now Park Avenue. By 1812, settlers had founded a Methodist Church and a gristmill on Cumberland Road south of present-day Park Avenue. In 1814, Congregationalists established their own church on Market Street east of where Park Avenue now stands. A post office called Monterey was established here in 1817, but it was discontinued operation by 1840 because no mail reached the community from that point forward. In 1830, James Prentice built a house on what are now Elm and High Streets north of present-day Market Street; this became known as Prentice's Tavern after him. The townspeople erected their first schoolhouse here in 1836; it burned down in 1861 but was rebuilt and used until 1870 when it burned again due to arson. In 1840, Presbyterianism took hold among the early settlers in Montgomery with the arrival of Drury Wickersham from Vermont; he donated land for a church and school on Grandview Road east ofpresent-dayMarket Street (this structure still stands). Reverend Wickersham named his new church Christmastime Chapel after his family's Christmas gift to Montgomery – an apple pie dish! In 1850s and 1860smontgomery grew rapidly due to its location as a transportation hub connecting different parts of Ohio through wagon roads extending northeast into Kentucky; these roads were also used by travelers heading into Kentucky for trade or pilgrimages around Christmas time. A toll gate operated at this junction for more than 50 years until it closed following railroad construction across Dayton Valley between Dayton and Cincinnati beginning in 1907 which destroyed much infrastructure including many lane crossings making travel much slower thru rural areas near Dayton Airport. Today, Montgomery is an important community with a strong agricultural and manufacturing base that remains popular among locals and tourists alike despite slow economic growth.
