The first gourmet coffee shop in Montgomery, Ohio was The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, opened by entrepreneur George H. Goudreau in 1966. The store's unique blend of roasted beans and cold steeped tea were a hit with local residents and visitors alike. Over the years, Goudreau's business expanded to include a variety of other items including coffee filters, grinds, roasts, and more. In 1984, he passed away but his legacy will live on through his son-in-law John Buell who continues to operate the store today as the Goudreau Coffee Company.
Montgomery is a small town in the Monongahela Valley of central Pennsylvania. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Montgomery is well known for its cheese, apples, and Turnpike traps. The first settler in what is now Montgomery was John Frazier on May 10, 1795. He and his family moved from York County, Pennsylvania to Huntingdon Township in 1813. By 1820 there were ten families living in Huntingdon Township with a total population of 120 people. In 1827 John Dickey married Betsey Stevenson and they founded the village of Dickeyville within Montgomery Parish on November 3rd of that year. The original courthouse was built on present day Lafayette Avenue which later became home to Shady Run gas station and other businesses including Montgomery Methodist Episcopal Church (now First Baptist Church). In 1829 James Krier purchased 2 acres north of what is now Main Street from Abraham Hazen for $45 dollars as site for a gristmill and sawmill which he named "Krier's Mill". With these mills came new residents such as David Burch (1787-1868), who raised chickens at his house until he built an egg factory by 1830; Elijah Hicks (baptized 1830) settled near present day Beaverdam Road; George Cockerill settled just east of current day Covello Road; John Pohlman established a feed mill south of where today's PA Route 780 intersects I-76/US 11; Solomon Herzog built a mansion on what still stands today between Beaverdam Road and Covello Road; Horace Cook erected a tannery next to present day US 11 west of Beaverdam Road; Joseph Hines ran a grocery store across from US 11 northeast corner where Market Street now meets Susquehanna River Drive. In 1840 borough officials decided that it would be more efficient to consolidate all the villages into one entity so they created Montgomeryshire Borough Council with five members elected at large by district with one representative appointed by the mayor pro tem every two years. On July 1st, 1840 Maurice Neeples became township supervisor after serving since 1839 when trustees voted not to elect one person to serve for four years because no man had reached age 50 then or since! The township continued implementing this system until consolidation took place effective January 1st, 1907 when voting results determined thatphans Seymour Sievers were elected supervisor over Samuel Unterberger! At this time trustee meetings were held primarily at Congregational Meeting House which served as our library during those early days! Montgomery began experiencing growth starting around 1870 when horse carriages started coming through town selling eggs etcetera from their yards adjacent to US 11 & Beaverdam Rd while also growing cotton plantations leading upriver along I-76/PA Route 291 called "The Gables" before eventually merging back into Montgomery Township effective January 1st 1907 due largely to lack of success continuing agricultural production despite substantial investment in infrastructure! Montgomery is a city in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,692 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lycoming County. The first permanent settler in what would become Montgomery was John Swartzwelder in 1795. He erected a log cabin on the current site of downtown Montgomery and named it "Swan's Nest." In 1814, settlers from New York founded a town called Mechanicsburg inLycoming County due to its position as an easy stopover on the Great Western Trail. mechanicsburg quickly lost popularity because of its location and lack of goods available nearer by. In 1825, Samuel Morse established an experimental station here while touring western PA with his brother Alfred. After Samuels death in 1847, his widow Marthas took over management of the station and changed the name to Montgomery in 1850 after her husband's home state of Massachusetts. By 1860, Montgomery had become a thriving community with several stores, three churches (the first being Presbyterian), two schools (onegrades K-12) and six residences In 1861 local politician Elijah Hicks offered land for sale along Beaver Creek which became known as Hicksville after him. This offer allowed for development around Hicksville until 1865 when agricultural land became available within walking distance of downtown Montgomery for settlement by farmers and their families who began to call Montgomery "The Mitten". The arrival of railroad trains during this time created new opportunities for commerce and transportation which helped spur growth throughout much of central Pennsylvania during this time period Many major businesses were established here including foundry/steelworks company Jay Cooke & Sons which built one of America's earliest locomotives; coal mine operated by Ewing Coal Company; seed mill run by Gossett Bros.; grocery store opened by J H Smith & Brothers; post office opened in 1870 Today Downtown Montgomery remains one OF THE most vibrant areas IN CENTRAL PA - With several restaurants/bars/cafes/stores/aeryotech center open 24 hrs!
