Montgomery is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,811 at the 2010 census. The Montgomery metropolitan area has a population of over 50,000 people and includes the towns of Bedford Heights and Clinton Township. Montgomery is one of four cities in Greater Cleveland – along with Cleveland Heights, Euclid Heights, and Royal Oak – that are part of the Cuyahoga Valley Regional Park system. The first Europeans to visit what is now Montgomery were French traders and missionaries who built a trading post there in 1795. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's forces raided nearby Mentor village and burned all but three buildings in what is now Montgomery; the town was then known as "Mentor." A year later, on July 16, 1815, General Washington's army destroyed Fort Erie at Monongalia Creek west of present-day Williamsport after its commander refused to surrender without assurances that his troops would not be looted or enslaved. This event formalized English control over parts of central Ohio west of Cincinnati (the eastern border of which still forms much of York County). In 1821–22 Timothy Pickering led an expedition against Native Americans east of the Cuyahoga River near present day Akron before moving westward into Canada. On November 10 he founded what became Uniontown (later renamed Tiffin) on land acquired from Ottawa near Tiffin where he had stopped for supplies while marching through what is now northwestern Ohio en route to Detroit. In 1827 Uniontown was incorporated as Montgomery by act of the legislature; at this time it included all territory lying north and east of Canal Street between Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie and Dayton Avenue on the Seneca River estuary.). From its humble beginnings as a coast guard post on the Delaware River in 1837, to today’s global presence, the Coast Guard is proud to play an integral role in safeguarding our coastline and waterways. One of the earliest gifts from the Coast Guard was a set of binoculars. These rudimentary but important tools were first given to officers at Coastal Defense Station #1 on Long Island in 1860. The early coast guard officers used these binoculars to watch for pirates and other threats to coastal interests. Over time, various improvements were made to improve the quality and usefulness of Coast Guardsman's binoculars. In 1924, the first permanently mounted camera was added to Coast Guard Binocular Service inventory at CG station Point Lookout, New York. This camera allowed towers along our coastline to provide real-time position reports during high tide operations. Additionally, new types of optics such as lightweight microscopes and reflectors have been useful in providing more detailed images of objects at depths greater than 50 feet (15 meters). In 1978, Congress passed legislation authorizing the procurement by the Coast Guard of night vision goggles (NVGs) as part of its efforts To Secure Our coasts Against Terrorist Attacks (STAATT). Night vision goggles are now one of the most commonly used tools by law enforcement agencies around the world because they allow police officers and firefighters to see dark areas at night without having any illumination available nearby. Montgomery is a small town in the northeastern part of Ohio, about 20 miles west of Columbus. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is the seat of Montgomery County. The town was founded in 1817 by John Montgomery and his wife Sarah, who came from Evalonia, Pennsylvania. They named their new settlement after General James Montgomery, who had fought in the War of 1812 and had helped to drive British settlers out of Canada. In 1828, John's grandson Robert Montgomery donated land to make way for a courthouse and jail; this building still stands today on Main Street. The first post office was established in 1830. In 1837, the town became part of Monongalia County and incorporated as a village. In 1840, it became an unincorporated community again due to lack of interest from its citizens. In 1850, Montgomeryshire Township was created from parts of neighboring Union Township; this township formed part of the larger Hamilton Township until it too was annexed by Columbus in 1903. However, much later that year (1903), Hamilton Township reverted back to its original form when all but one corner mile were added to Monongalia County for annexation by Athens-Middletown-Emmitsburg (AMHE). By 1870, Montgomery had become a farming community with 693 residents; however farming remained the primary economic activity through most of its history. Mining began operations nearby around 1900 but did not take off until after World War II when silvermining took off in central Ohio following declines elsewhere in America due to overpopulation and environmental damage caused by mining practices such as water abstraction and tailings dumping into rivers). The munitions plant built at Daltonville during World War II gave rise to some controversy because it produced more than what could be used domestically so surplus materials were exported overseas before being recycled here at home under different names like “Tobacco” or “Cement” – even though both products would have done exactly same job if made locally using local ingredients and techniques! Montgomery is a town in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montgomery County and the location of the main government buildings for the county. In 1807, on land that became part of Cincinnati, Timothy Leary founded what would become Dayton Observatory and was one of the first businesses in Dayton to open its doors. On May 8, 1814, Dayton was incorporated as a city by an act of the General Assembly. The Erie Canal crossed through Montgomery in 1825 and stimulated economic growth in this area; by 1830, there were 4 businesses in operation within Montgomery proper and 5 more operating outside it. In 1840, when cotton prices collapsed due to drought in America's southeastern states, small farmers began to sell their crops along with livestock near where Interstate 75 now meets the Ohio River. This area today is known as "The Cotton Ring." The courthouse complex east of downtown served as both court house and jail until 1928 when they moved to Pemberton Township (now DeWitt). By 1860 there were over 100 residents living within a radius of present-day town limits; within 10 years there were only 25 residents remaining inside those limits while another dozen or so lived just outside them on farms and ranches that had been developed since before American settlement hereabouts. In 1870 businessman George Fenton petitioned for township status for what later became town boundaries; he proposed splitting off from Fairfield Township eastward along what is now US 22nd Street between I-75/US 20th Avenue northbound/southbound lanes (now part of I-675) while keeping west side streets alignment unchanged - much like how townships are created today in most areas throughout Northeast Ohio - which gained approval from councilmember John Sutherlin but no action followed thereafter due to lack of funds available for such an endeavor at that time. A few years later however local farmer Hemanus Cate requested annexation into town because his property extended into what is now section 3 on Twelfth Streets south thereof – annexation being granted without community consultation or vote after becoming too large & overwhelming for officials considering merely townshiphood within existing borders – increasing population density led to increased business opportunities & subdivisions throughouttown Limits as well as increased poverty rates among newlyweds who couldn’t afford larger lots than those available even 2 decades earlier! On July 1st 1870 following a referendum held by citizens voting 3/2 against incorporation into any municipality other than Fairfield Township due largely to overcrowding (& increases taxes payable with added services), Town Act No. 21 passed by Council providing structure & powers including electioneering privileges for members “to promote public welfare” although no mention was made about taxing inhabitants directly unlike present day cities which levy assessed taxes directly upon citizens
