Montgomery, Ohio is home to the United States Army's 2nd Infantry Division. The division was activated on December 15, 1903 and has fought in both World Wars. In 1951-1952 HQ & HqSqdn was redesignated I Corps HQ&HqSqdn before being reassigned back to 3rd Infantry Division HQ on October 15 1956 after troops were moved out of Dayton for Operation Little America which caused many stores/ businesses closed across US due to lack of inventory management skills among volunteer officers corps members who had taken leave during peacetime) When Troop E (1/2 Battalion) 9th Armor District arrived in Montgomery from Ft Carson Colorado on July 17 1958 they took over functions of I Corps HQ&HqSqdn until relieved by 7th Brigade Combat Team elements from III Corps effective November 30 1958 when brigade shifted southward as part of counteroffensiveOperation Market Garden). The Montgomery, Ohio, Militia was organized on September 5, 1861. The first unit to be raised in the town was Company D of the 3rd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On December 25th, 1861, Company E of the 3rd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry also joined the militia. In February 1862, Company F of the 3rd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized and began duty with Companies G and H of the 1st Brigade Morke County Militia. In April 1862, Companies I and K were formed from Units A and B of the 1st Brigade Morke County Militia. On July 8th, 1862, a company of Regulars from Mahoning County arrived in town to help garrison Confederate forces at Camp Grant near Dayton. In October 1862 companies C and F were re-organized into two battalions (later renamed as Regiments) under command of Colonel John L. Steele while Companies J and M were redesignated as Artillery batteries (later renamed Field Artillery Battalions). The regiment disbanded on October 15th 1865 due to lack of volunteers for its remaining months service.

In 1839, Montgomery became the capital of what would become Ohio; during this time it was also known as “The Prairie Town” because many settlers came here to escape rural poverty back east. In 1870, when Ohio joined Confederation with other states under American rule (including Kentucky), Montgomery became part of Ohio Territory; due to this change in status, much of Montgomery’s infrastructure changed over time – including its architecture which reflects this new reality. Over time, however, many aspects of local life remained similar: most notably its strong Welsh community which continues to thrive today despite economic challenges faced by neighboring communities across America. In 1905, during World War I(), General George Custer battlered here against German forces; later that year President Theodore Roosevelt made Montgomery his headquarters during his first term in office; from 1909 until his death in 1912 he was also governorof Ohio).
