By 1920, however, Middletown's population had decreased to fewer than 10,000 people due to various factors including suburbanization and economic decline throughout much of Ohio. Today, only a few legacy businesses remain in Middletown; among them is Heritage Tire & Rubber Company which manufactures auto parts there from beginnings in 1901 until its closure in 2007.
