The first coffee beans were roasted in Middletown, Ohio in 1812. The name "Middletown Coffee" was given to the beans by the early settlers because of the short distance between their town and the largest coffee plantation in America.
Middletown is a small town in southwestern Ohio, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati–Daytona, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Middletown name may be derived from "middletree" or "midden", an archeological term meaning both a burying ground and an area used for agriculture. The first European to visit Middletown was James Palkia in 1795 while exploring the region for British colonization of what is now western Pennsylvania. In 1814, Colonel John Jernigan built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River and named it Middletown after his home town of Middletown, Connecticut. This initial settlement grew rapidly with traders and farmers moving into the area between 1814 and 1820. By 1840, there were more than 100 residents living in Middletown Township. In 1851, much of what is now Dayton was founded as a result of land grants from President James Kapp et al.. One grant included 3,-acre (1 ha) lot on which Mr. George Biddle erected a frame house which he called “Biddle” House (now known as University Hall). In 1865, when Dayton became an independent city, it annexed portions of five townships including that of Middletown Township: eastbound Cochran Road to form Ephrata Township; westbound Whitehall Road to form Butler Township; southbound Southside Drive to form Delaware Township; eastbound Springdale Boulevard to form Gratz Township; and westbound Whitehall Boulevard to become Uniontown Township when Dayton became its second city

Middletown is a small town in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Middletown was founded by General David Dixon in 1796 as a settlement on the Scioto River between what are now Mentor and Wickliffe townships. In 1802, Dixon's son John A. Dixon donated land to become the nucleus of Middletown Township. The first post office was established in Middletown on December 3, 1803. The township was organized on February 14, 1825 under the name of "Dixonville". After the death of General David Dixon in 1828, his widow took over management of Middletown Township and named it after her late husband's estate: "Dixonstown." The first settler to arrive in what is now Middletown were Nicholas Brady and his family from Connecticut who arrived around 1800. By 1830 there were about 20 families living here. Sprague & Company built a gristmill here in 1830 which became known as “Old Grinder” because it could grind flour so fine that even millers had difficulty getting it through their mills using other methods such as boiling or pounding it into bitsmeal size pieces. In 1860 – 1861 three men from New York City– Wm Hays , Salmon P[hia]nston and Augustus Kelley went into business for themselves as “The Three Gents” gristmill owners; these three men started one of America’s earliest grain elevator operations which still operates today (see photo). They also did some sawing and building but gave up thisenterprise when they got tired of all the work being done at home by their wives (now Mrs.) Sprague & Co., not having any children to take over an enterprise like this! In 1840 Abraham Lincoln moved with his wife Mary to MiddletOWN from Quincy Village near Canton where he had been working as a teacher before becoming president four years earlier during the Jackson administration; they purchased 320 acres (12 ha) northwest of town along Scioto River for $5 per acre ($/ha) when they arrived – this area would later form part of Kent State University campus . It wasn't until 1863 when Union forces burned down buildings in downtown MiddletOWN during an attack on Springfield Armory that residents realized just how unsafe their town really was; since then most local businesses have catered to customers outside town while keeping intact much older architecture within town limits including churches etc.. Most people hereabouts remember only good times during those days although there were some hard times too... One memorable event happened back then when General Ulysses S Grant came through our area stopping at our station on his way south; everyone wanted autographs but he refused because he said no photos unless people could see him actually doing something instead of just posing for pictures! Muddletonians will always have fond memories OF THAT DAYS!
Middletown was a small town in the Ohio Valley region of the United States, located about 15 miles northwest of Dayton. The population was 2,811 at the 2000 census. Middletown is known for its apple orchards and as the birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, who served as President of the United States from 1828 to 1841. Middletown also had a large manufacturing sector in earlier times with shipbuilding and other industries including clothing and shoe manufacturing. A small agricultural sector still exists today but has been largely supplanted by larger commercial farms over the last few decades. Middletown was founded on December 3, 1800 by James Fenton and his family after they moved from Newtown Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania; their hometown had been destroyed in a fire some years earlier. The first store opened there in 1801. In 1826, Middletown became part of the newly formed Hamilton Township (now Delaware County), Ohio., becoming one of its largest towns after that time. In 1840, it also became an incorporated village when it joined what is now Cuyahoga County through an act of the General Assembly; this followed similar annexation efforts by other villages throughout central Ohio during that decade-long period known as "the Great Annexation." Grant's birthplace is now considered part of MiddletOWN due to its location within municipal boundaries- on Grant Road between York Road and First Street just east of Middletsville Cemetery - although he actually took place at nearby Perrysburg while Grant was mayor of Perrysburg (1829-30). One theory suggests that Grant may have been born prematurely while his father nursed him back to health at home before taking him away to live with his wife Elizabeth Keyes at 12 South Elmwood Avenue which would later become Washington University; another theory suggests that he may have contracted tuberculosis while living near Philadelphia so his parents took him down there for treatment instead returning him finally home when he recovered; both theories are supported by evidence such as letters written by President Ulysses S. Grant himself which suggest that young Grant suffered from TB throughout his life even though noTB tests were ever conducted then or ever since! Grants birthplace has typically been included within MiddletOWN due to proximity alone but more recently research into local history has shown evidence suggesting otherwise
