By 1870, Miamisburg had reached its peak as a commercial center with banks, stores and theaters as well as several dozen homes built for mill workers and their families. However, heavy industry began to enter into Miamisburgh through importation of coal from anthracite mines near Pittsburgh beginning in the late 1800s; this led to job loss for local residents until natural gas became available around 1930 when industries shifted away from coal altogether. Today, Miamisburgh continues to be an agriculturally based community with modest employment levels; however, it remains home to some high-quality businesses including WSU’s School of Business Administration (SBAA).

In 1870-71 an act was passed authorizing $5 per acre ($30 per tract) be levied on hardwood lumber being exported from this area for use within Ohio; this led to the erection of sawmills and other woodworking plants here which have continued to operate through today's economy. Additionally, five grist mills were built between 1870-1900 along with a bakery and two hotels before closing during World War I because of lack of demand due to mechanization throughout Europe; however operations recommenced soon after cessation of hostilities In 1915-16 an act called for all rural schools within 500 miles (800 km) of any city or capital must provide free textbooks for students; this led to Miamisburg’s enrollment increase totaling 194 students by 1918 when books began arriving courtesy of Cleveland bookstore proprietor J H Wexler In 1925-26 both Grove City College (now Iona University) and Western Reserve University opened their doors within 2 years following prohibition against such coeducational institutions having been placed by then Governor Frank Goodyear; moreover these institutions had failed to gain support from local business owners which eventually lead to their closure During World War II many male employees served in military service including four members from Miamisburg who enlisted in 1942 while their wives stayed home raising seven children After war ended most residents returned back into their regular lives but some decided later that they would like more open political representation so formed a group called "The Citizens’ Committee" which lobbied successfully for incorporation into Mansfield Township in 1946
