Miamisburg, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 25 miles west of Cincinnati and about 15 miles east of Dayton. Miamisburg is a town in Holmes County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,786 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Miamisburg was founded by Isaac Morrill in 1812 and named for him. The first post office was established in Miamisburg on November 15, 1814. A sawmill and gristmill were built here in 1825 by James Haggerty and remain operational until the early 1960s. In 1865, John Winchester moved his lumber business to Miamisburg from Bedford Township because of better access to timber resources hereabouts. Winchester's mill continued operation until it burned down in 1949; however, its ruins still stand today near Third Street and Market Road. The town began to grow rapidly after World War II when heavy industry arrived with such companies as General Motors (GM), Ford Motor Company (FORD), Chrysler Corporation (CHRYSLER), and Bethlehem Steel Corporation (BETHLEHEM STEEL). The steel mills closed during the 1970s but have been reborn as small businesses since that time including a new plastics plant being built just outside of town on the former site of a GM factory that closed in 2002.
