The United States Navy deployed historical gifts to Mentor, Ohio in support of the local community. The gifts ranged from relics and memorabilia from naval history to clothing and tools used by sailors. Mentor, Ohio is a city in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,569 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Medina County. It is located on the southern border of Greater Cincinnati and the eastern edge of Dayton. Mentor was founded in 1814 by Isaac Watts (1724-1813) as a Methodist mission station about south of present-day Mentor. When he died, his wife and children took up residence there until 1827 when they moved to nearby Xenia. In 1881, Mentor became part of Dayton Township after it was merged with that township from Hamilton Township. The first post office in Mentor was established in 1814; it closed on July 24, 1840 due to lack of mail service to the community during that time period. The current post office building was built in 1903 and renovated in 2006-2007 according to Jens Jensen's design principles which emphasize functionality over ornamentation or grandeur. In 1850, most residents were farmers who raised corn, hay and other livestock for local consumption or exported their products to markets east of Toledo along Ironton Road and north of Lebanon Road. Manufacturing began around 1900 with a few small businesses producing items such as radios and typewriters before quickly expanding into more modern technologies such as plastics production beginning in the early 1960s when an area industrial park called Greenfield opened near downtown Mentor . By 2000 there were over 100 businesses operating within downtown Mantor including many large chain stores like Sears Roebuck & Co., KFC/Kentucky Fried Chicken, Macy's Department Store etcetera while smaller businesses continued to thrive such as Creative Home Design business started by Kathy Wiegand that has been running continuously since 1978 . Downtown Mantor experienced rapid growth starting around 2001 when Interstate 5Qwas completed just south of town connecting Dayton with Cincinnati through what is now known as “The Loop” making it easy for people living outside downtowns to get their goods and services without having to leave their homes . This also resulted in increased development within adjacent neighborhoods including Westwood Village which annexed much of eastern Mentor between 2002 and 2003 while neighboring Butler Heights developed into one of Dayton’s most vibrant neighborhoods with high-end shopping malls, public schools and several thousand residential units

Mentor, Ohio is a small town located in the Mahoning Valley region of northeast Ohio. The population was 3,640 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Mentor was James Prentice and his family who arrived on October 12, 1814. They built a log cabin on what is now South Main Street. The first post office in Mentor was established in 1827 and was called "Newick". In 1836, David Wilkinson opened a store at what is now High School Road and became the first resident Postmaster. mentor began to grow as an agricultural community with tannery production becoming important early on. A sawmill was founded in 1849 by Daniel Capps and became one of the largest mills in central Ohio until it closed its doors in 1905. By 1860, there were fifty residents living in Mentor with two churches and four schools existing around that time: Newick Presbyterian Church (now Stroudsburg United Methodist Church), Old First Presbyterian Church (now Goodrich Baptist Church), Porter Academy (now Porter Elementary School), and Morningside Missionary Baptist Episcopal church (now Christmastime Chapel). In 1890, local miller John Fenton moved from Findlay to open a foundry here which soon became world renowned for their high quality products such as bronzeware, cast iron ware, pistols etc.. Like many other small towns throughout America during this time period some businesses went out of business while others grew larger thanks to innovation or marketing efforts by their founders/owners. However no matter how successful these businesses may have been they always remained rooted within their local community which gave them an immense sense of autonomy and identity that helped them remain strong over time despite competition from bigger brother towns or even neighboring countries! In 1915 when World War I started things changed for Mentor as many men were drafted into the military leaving much of the agriculture behind including tanneries which continued operations but output decreased significantly due to wartime rationing affecting all types of goods however sales did rebound once hostilities ended providing stability for those businesses that survived while others failed; this also includedementoran's only flour mill which reopened after prohibition repealed!. Many veterans returned home unable to find employment so most locals took up farming or re-opened some old tannery doors; thus beginning another era where Mentor experienced rapid growth! Upon returning home many new families came along such as brothers Jack & Donny Moran who ran a restaurant/bar downtown named Donny's Diner until 1984 when it burned down.; finally starting fresh off Broad Street opposite school district headquarters! Herein we have our current day incarnation with Amenities like movie theaters, restaurants etc., yet still having that back door feeling wherein everyone knows each other inside out!. "Mentor has seen more than its fair share of growth since its establishment 95 years ago – both commercially and socially." This statement could not be more accurate considering today’s cityscape has drastically transformed since then making it difficult to pinpoint just one specific era or trend within the town’s history! From small villages dotting rural areas across central Ohio right up through Urban cores like Cleveland and Akron significant changes have occurred over this timeframe making it difficult to capture all aspects of what made Mentor unique during any given moment…..but thankfully oral history provides us with precious glimpses into moments long forgotten!"
