The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum in Mentor, Ohio is a tribute to the men and women who have served our country through deployments. The museum has been open since 1981 and it preserves the history of Marines who have given their all for our country. There are many reasons why Marines deploy. Some Marines may serve for only a few months, while others may be deployed for years on end. However, no one deployment is ever without its own unique gift history. In particular, the Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum in Mentor preserves the history of Marine gifts to local businesses and individuals during military deployments in Ohio. In 1981, Sergeant First Class David Fenton opened the Marine Gifts store in Mentor with his friends John Heininger and Rick Kappelman. At that time, there was no such thing as a Military Commemorative Coin or Medal Shop as we know them today. Sgt Fenton’s store was a small business that sold military memorabilia from all over America including Germany, Japan, Korea and Italy! Not only were these items useful to Marines stationed abroad but also locally-owned businesses got to enjoy discounts on products from Sgt Fenton’s collection! Since then, Sgt Fenton has donated many items from his store back into the Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum in Mentor which now includes more than 2,000 items! This collection provides insight into the lives of Marines when they are deployed and also helps us remember their sacrifices! Today, corporals (senior enlisted soldiers) make up almost 50% of Marines deployed overseas! In order to support this growth rate along with other service members across America who are deploying too, we must continue preserving marine gift history at our museum!

Mentor, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,479 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1817 by John Mentor and his wife Abigail Mentor as a small village on the southern border of what would become Cuyahoga County. In 1830, John's son-in-law and brother-in-law built a gristmill there and it became known as "Mentor" because of that. In 1847, the Erie Canal reached Mentor and began to bring prosperity to the town. In 1865, Mentor annexed portions of neighboring unincorporated communities of Westlake and Arlington Heights; these annexations made Mentor one municipality with a total population of 14,684. By 1907, when Cleveland Municipal Railway (Cleveland RT) took over operations in that year, all but 4% of the residents were employed within its borders by businesses or institutions located within its boundaries (the rest being employed by residents inside city limits). This situation changed only with the creation of Cleveland Hopkins Airport in 1948; since then most residents have worked outside their homes or within close proximity to downtown Cleveland via professional jobs only. The early history of schools in Mentor can be traced back to 1817 when John and Abigail Mentor founded a small school for girls near their home on Cedar Road east of USRoute 422/I-71. Classes started out with six students enrolled from May through September each year until1824 when they moved into their present building which still stands today at 401 Elm Street adjacent to Lake Erie Boulevard East (now I-271). Over time other villages soon followed suit including Westlake Village (1901), Arlington Heights Village (1902), Beachwood HillsVillage(1907), Uniontown Village(1908), ParklandVillage(1910) etc., each one having its own school building erected according to their own unique needs/interests/outfitings which continue to this day! Today there are over 100+ high school seniors who attend various local public & private schools throughout our township & county!
Since the Marine Corps was founded in 1775, Marines have been deployed on many occasions. Some of the most memorable deployments include Operation Neptune's Spear in Afghanistan during 2001 and Iraq during 2003, both of which were historic media events. Additionally, Marine units have also been mobilized for global peacekeeping efforts such as the United Nations Peacekeeper mission in Cyprus and NATO'sOperation Northern Watch. In honor of these deployments and others throughout history, Marines have often donated gift items to charity or given back to their community.

Mentor, Ohio is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenfield Township seat. The village of Mentor was incorporated in 1868 and named for George Washington Mentor. The first post office in Mentor opened on December 20, 1870. In 1875, a sawmill and gristmill were built there by Wm. Henson and Brothers and became known as the "Henson Mills." Mentor was originally located on the east side of the Kawkawa River, about due south of what is now Muskegon Heights. On October 10, 1881, it was moved to its present location on western bank of the Kawkawa River about three miles north-northeast of Greenfield Township. Mentor has been an agricultural community since its founding and has important crops such as corn (cereal), tomatoes (tomato sauce), potatoes (potatoes au gratin), onions (onion soup), cottonseed oil, soybeans (soy sauce) and wheat.(wheat germ). In recent years, other industries have come to prominence in Mentor including information technology services providers such as Apple Inc., Facebook Inc., Google LLC., Microsoft Corporation., Twitter Inc., Adobe Systems Incorporated and Oracle Corp.. Bicycles have long been a popular means of transportation here; many people took up riding when they first arrived in this area after leaving their homes in larger towns closer to big cities. Today's residents continue this tradition with bike paths that connect different parts of town across both lanes of roadways which are typically shoulder-high but can be narrower at times due to potholes or downpours that make driving difficult or impossible over short distances
