Mentor, Ohio is a city in the US state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 23,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown, OH–West Chester, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Mentor came about as early as 1788 when James Robertson and his band of British fur traders founded a small trading post on the Scioto River near present-day Mentor. By 1800, Robertson's post had grown to become an important center for trade with Native American tribes along the Scioto River valley. In 1806, General Andrew Jackson moved military forces from Greene County into Lucas County to quash a rebellion led by James Kenedy and other Native Americans. As a result of this event, Mentor quickly emerged as one of Jackson's most important military outposts. Following the end of戦争 in 1815, many veterans from Jackson's army settled in Mentor and its surrounding area. This period marked an exciting time for local businesses because many new products were being developed thanks to technological advances such as railroads and canal construction that were just starting to take off in America. Mentor, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settler in Mentor was Nicholas Prentice, who arrived in 1797. He and his family were among the first to move to what is now Mentor from nearby Wooster Township. Prentice had been a justice of the peace in Wooster when he moved to Mentor in 1797. In 1812, he donated land to form what is now Mentor Township. Mentor quickly became known as an agricultural center due to its many farms and orchards that produced apples, grapes, onions, tomatoes, celery and other vegetables. Fruit trees include chestnuts (which are still legal to produce in Ohio),plings (a type of apple) and walnuts; while dairy products such as cream and butter have long been produced hereabouts. In 1847-48 forces loyal to American President James K. Polk attacked Native American villages east of the Cuyahoga River near modern-day Cleveland while trying to drive out Native Americans living there on behalf of white settlers then under construction by General John Ross for reasons unknown (the episode has been variously called "The Battle of Miamisburg", "The Invasion of Indians", or simply "The Indian Wars").
