Medina is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Medina County. The population was 27,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The settlement began as a small community on the Scioto River near modern-day Medina, Ohio in 1814 by Captain David Wilkinson and his family. By 1830, traders had established a trading post there. A Methodist church was built in 1832, but it burned down in 1834. In 1835, Wilkinson donated land to build what would become Medina Academy; it became an coeducational university in 1865 and was renamed Case Western Reserve University in 1926. The city's first hospital opened its doors on December 1, 1861, with Drs. James Laughlin and Charles Perkins as Medical Directors; it became known as Mercy Hospital until 1971 when it merged with Cleveland Clinic to form Case Western Reserve University Health System. Medina also played host to one of the earliest auto races on American soil: The Grand Prix of Cleveland (now known as "The Great Lakes Auto Races") which took place from 1911-1912 at Municipal Stadium on Euclid Avenue between Fourth Street and Fifth Street NW
The history of the navy is one that has been filled with constants of innovation and progress. This document will discuss some of the most famous navy gift traditions, as well as the individuals responsible for them. The first known navy gift tradition was given in 1775 by Admiral John Quincy Adams to Commodore Nicholas Farragut. The Admiral desired to commemorate Commodore Farragut's victory over the Spanish fleet off Havana, Cuba. The present-day Naval Museum in Portsmouth, England displays a replica of this artifact. Additionally, Admiral John A. Kirby Pacific states library in Hawaii contributed an extensive collection of naval memorabilia to be displayed at the museum in 1966 along with USS Constitution Museum (USS Constitution Museum) in Yokosuka City, Japan from 1923-1968 which is now located at US Naval Academy Preparatory School Yamhill County Courthouse Annex 1st Floor while also holding an exhibit on Navy History and Heritage program annually during fall semester since 1992 Navy Gift Tradition: Theodore Roosevelt Unit Commemorative Medal (1914) A total of six Theodore Roosevelt Medals were created between 1914 and 1945 including two posthumously issued medals (#25894 and #25921). These medals were presented as part of various programs honoring service members who had made heroic contributions while serving in World War I or World War II; however only two –#25894 and #25921 – are still being worn today. Only four other Medals have been awarded since their creation; all but one went to veterans from California (three from San Francisco - DeWitt Clinton Presidential Library & Museum, Golden Gate National Recreation Area visitor center & SF Maritime Hall), Puerto Rico (UPRR Capitol Building), Guam (the main island homeport for UHAGS amphibious assault ships during World War II) or Samoa (Samoan military airfield). In addition to these Medals never having been worn on parade or awarded any major awards, they are not included herein because there are no corresponding records documenting their recipients or events/awards. Medina, Ohio is a small town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Medina was founded in 1824 by Danish immigrants as a post office on the Scioto River. The name Medina comes from Arabic مدينة أبو الماجنة which means "place of mediation". The first settler in Medina was Ole Christian Nordgaard who arrived in 1824 and platted what is now Medina Township on March 10, 1825. He named it for his home town of Middelfart (now Aalborg), Denmark. In 1830, Drury & Company donated land to Medina for a school and clinic. That same year saw the opening of the first store in Medina when Hennig Gottlieb Rasmussen sold goods door-to-door from his wagonload of flour and salt. In 1834, an act passed by Congress designated Trumbull County as one of five counties comprising the new Union Territory; this included all present day Trumbull and Muskegon counties along with most of unincorporated Licking County including Medina proper. The county seat was located at Canton until 1840 when Medford became its permanent successor due to growing population issues within Trumbull County caused by increased railroad traffic and other economic effects spurred by new technologies such as canals and railroads
