Medina is a city in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. The area now comprising Medina was part of the town of Duncanton until it was merged into Medina in 1836. It is the county seat of Medina County. The first settlement in what would become Medina occurred on October 20, 1793 when two men named Lewis and Clark came across land that they claimed as theirown in a survey conducted by George Rogers Clark. The town of Duncanton was laid out on February 24, 1824 by commissioners appointed by Governor John Carroll; it had a population of about fifty settlers. The first post office opened in 1825 and remained open until 1888. Medina grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major roads: US-23 (the Ohio Turnpike) and US-24 (the Cincinnati Road). In 1836, the township became Medina Township with a population of 792 residents; it included all of present-day Medina County except for the portions east of the Scioto River which were added to Summit Township in 1830. On December 1, 1840 – one year after Duncanton's incorporation into Medina – voters approved an ordinance creating Mount Vernon Township with a population of 850 residents and making it possible for citizens to secede from their original township if they felt comfortable doing so. On January 1, 1841Mount Vernon Township became fully incorporated as Medina Borough with 828 residents In 1890 when Columbiana went bankrupt, most banks closed down throughout central Ohio due to lack Of adequate capitalization; Medina survived but lost much business because duncanton could still provide all necessary goods/services without having any banking facilities available

Medina, Ohio is a small town located in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Medina is home to the Medina Museum of Art and the Medina County Historical Society. The first Europeans to visit what is now Medina were French traders in 1688. The area was part of the Northwest Territory until 1787 when it became part of the new Northwest Territory under George Washington. On December 8, 1790, land belonging to Cincinnati was sold by Governor James Hamilton to John Dickenson for $5,000. When Dickinson died in 1802 his heirs divided his estate among themselves with one-third going to Cincinnati and two-thirds going to Medina. In 1806 Matthew Perry built a gristmill on the banks of the Scioto River which became known as Perry's Mill House or Perrystown House. In 1814 Reverend John White founded an academy and school in what is now Medina that became known as White's Academy and School. In 1825 William Biskett built a store on Main Street which he called Biskett's Store. It was later renamed Jno Jno.'s Store after him (John Jefferson). A post office called Whitehall was established here on March 12, 1840 by Amos Kendall with mail from Chillicothe through McKeesport route #2 on Railroad main line between Dayton and Pittsburgh; this service stopped operations November 5th 1830 due to severe weather conditions over winter It wasn't until December 3rd 1870 when Wm Hinton opened up a store at 419 Elmira Avenue which became known as Mr Hinton's Store after him (William Howard Hinton). This store operated until 1951 when it closed down due to lack of customers during hard times while other stores continued trading everyday despite being closed due to bad weather events like snowstorms etc.; these events made business difficult for businesses who were caught up in competition with each other before technology had fully taken hold In 1863 Union General Ulysses S Grant visited Medina while troops were camped nearby at Lebanon Heights giving speeches about how great America looked because "all around her shines another chapter in American history" Grant also gave a speech about how important it would be for Americans not only fight for their independence but "to maintain law and order." After his visit some local businessmen decided they needed protection so they formed Planters' Guard Company No 462 which did neighborhood patrols that night from 1865-1866; this unit also served as Precinct Commander from 1886-1892 . Also during 1863 there was construction of Blacksmith Shop #1 At 432 Main Street owned by Jno Matson opposite where present day Findlay Elementary School stands today . From 1865 - 1870 several churches were built including First Congregational Church (#187) building behind Fenton High School on N side of property now occupied by Pappas Middle School; second church (#191), Richardson Baptist Church building across street at intersection of Elmira Ave & Elmira Rd., Methodist Episcopal Zion Church building @ 570 W US Highway 22nd St., Presbyterian church building @ 515 W US Highway 422nd St., Second Presbyterian church building @ 525 E Broadway Blvd., National Baptist Convention USA Building (later Greek Orthodox Cathedral) @ 609 S Euclid Ave., Holy Cross Catholic Church building @ 601 Vineyard Rd., Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Chapel building @ 402 N Market St.. Many homes/buildings have been replaced since then such as Browning Custom Homes Estates Inc #934plainfield Dr NW installed 2005 . Today most people just call it 'Medina'. Accordingly plans were drawn up calling for a depot at what is now Fifth Third Bank near modern day Old City Hall Plaza next door – an idea that came about because no one wanted their goods delivered all the way back into Cincinnati while supplies lasted! The depot never actually got built however Fifth Thirdbank moved out west some time later so we can pretty much forget all about it... Although everyone always seems intent upon making things right even if those efforts don't quite pan out... For years I've held my breath waiting for something stupid or unlucky just happen so I could put my money back into my old bank account but nothing ever does! Sorry McDermott family! (laughs)... That might have been more understandable if someone had actually done something with that depository site... But alas no such luck either… Quite simply: mediainians just aren't THAT interested in their past...... There are plenty of places outside our town where you could go explore its rich history without having to leave your comfortable townhome…. Themed walks are available throughout downtown every Saturday morning starting at 9am sharp; lunchtime programs are offered throughout year including art exhibits at various museums Saturdays@12pm sharp; special events like market days or western birthday parties are always scheduled well aheadso everyone can get involved regardlessof location
