The Medina Army National Guard was activated in 1920 and has served in a variety of conflicts, both World War I and II. The Guard's unique history is the result of its deployment to numerous different places throughout Ohio and Michigan. One of the Guard's most notable deployments was during World War II when it was mobilized to serve in the European Theater. The Medina unit fought in Normandy, Belgium, and then moved on to Germany where they participated in Allied operations such as the Battle of Stalingrad. In 1945, the Medina unit returned home after campaigns in Japan and Korea. Since itsactivation, the Medina Army National Guard has experienced many changes which have included various reorganizations and replacements within the force. However, one constant has been its dedication to service to Ohio and Michigan communities. today, members of the guard continue their roles as protectors of our state's citizens through deployments for training exercises or other events statewide.

Medina, Ohio has a proud military history dating back to the Revolutionary War. The city was home to one of the first American regiments, the Medina Battalion, which fought in the war. In 1812, Medina became the capital of Ohio and saw combat during the Napoleonic Wars. After the war ended, Medina flourished as a center for trade and commerce. Medina, Ohio is a small town located in the heart of the Cleveland-Akron area. The population was 9,971 at the 2010 census. Medina is home to several cultural attractions, including Medina Museum of Art and Medina Park. The first known settlement in what is now Medina was made by traders from Krakow in 1496. By 1805, there were three settlements: one on the Scioto River between Dayton and Youngstown, one on Delaware River near Sandusky and another on the Miami River near Akron. In 1816, a group of settlers founded Medina Village after purchasing 5 acres of land from John Dickey for $10. They named their town after British general David Hunter who had died during an expedition against Native Americans in Canada that year. The village only lasted until 1824 when it was destroyed by a fire. In 1830, developers bought 10 acres around present day Medina Park for $2 per acre and began construction on what would become one of Greater Cleveland's most famous landmarks – the Plain Dealer building which still stands today (it was built as part of a city-wide reclamation project). The new village quickly became popular with residents due to its easy access to public transportation and good schools. It remained an important center for trade until 1892 when it burned down again due to an arsonist’s spree that same year. Medina continued to grow slowly until World War II when demand for housing outstripped available resources in the area. Afterward, much development took place within the boundaries of Medina Park which has since been renamed Plain Dealer Drive in honor of its original namesake − along with other nearby streets such as Euclid Avenue and Prospect Avenue− becoming some of Greater Cleveland’s most prestigious addresses. Today, Medina remains a vibrant community with diverse businesses and cultural amenities that make it an interesting place to live or visit while exploring this sizable metropolis across the river from downtown Cleveland!

The first Europeans to visit what is now Medina were French traders in 1797. The area was inhabited by the Ottawa and Miami tribes before British fur traders arrived in 1811. A post office called "Metadata" was established in 1816, and remained open until 1871. The community of Medina was founded on July 6, 1824 by George Washington Wilkinson as a trading post between Cincinnati and Cleveland. In 1850 the town had a population of 670. It became an agricultural center with several large cotton plantations developing during the 19th century." Medina's downtown contains evidence of its early years including a mission house built in 1827 and platted around 1830. A national historic district has been designated for Medina over time although most of its buildings have not been preserved or are no longer standing
