In 1826, General George Washington Carleton established a military outpost here and named it after himself, Mayfields Landing on the Cuyahoga River. By 1830, there were about 60 residents in Mayfield Heights and 8 churches organized around this time: St. John's Lutheran Church (founded 1827), Evangelical Christian congregation (1830), First Methodist Episcopal church (1831), Second Presbyterian church (1836), and Congregationalist church (1841). In 1850, Cleveland Mayor James Worthy developed land east of downtown to establish what would be called “Mayfield Park” which would include 4 blocks of land bounded by Euclid Avenue on the north, State Street on the south, Brushy Creek on the east and state road 10 on the west. This development was largely an effort to increase business opportunities for motorists traveling through Cleveland during that period; however, only two homes were built on this site before mayor Worthy sold most of it off to raise money for other city projects. In 1861 when Brownsville became a hamlet within Cleveland limits following its annexation by Cleveland from Lake Erie Township, many Germans living in Brownsville decided to move into Mayfield Heights as well because they felt that they had more opportunity here than in Brownsville – despite being closer toCLEVELAND CENTER than they were to their families back home in Germany. During World War I many Japanese Americans living near Proctor and Janesville also moved into Mayfield Heights due to fears that they may be drafted or sent away if war broke out overseas. However no Japanese people lived anywhere nearMayfield Heights during World War II due to anti-Japanese hysteria which escalated after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 When Detachment 1126/Cleveland National Guard was activated during World War II under Program Executive Order 9066 all white men between 18-45 years old were ordered not only into military service but also into racial segregation so that black men could not serve alongside white men even if they wanted too! Many African American men did choose not to participate in military service solely because doing so would have put them at odds with their white comrades who could do anything without consequence – including violence against them! As a result few African American men actually served duringWWII outside of ceremonial roles such as guardsmen or drivers for troop trains

Mayfield Heights is a small town in Fayette County, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1815 by James Mayfield and his family. The community became a part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area in 1964. As of the 2010 census, the population of Mayfield Heights was 9,848. The origin story of Mayfield Heights can be traced back to 1815 when James Mayfield and his family immigrated from England to America. After landing on American soil, the Mayfields started a farm near what is now Green Bay Township in Fayette County. In 1816, they added land to their holdings and named their new home after themselves – Mayfair Township. By 1830, James and Jeannette may field had five children: John (1820-1892), Mary (1822-1893), Sarah (1824-1900), Comfort (1828-1905) and Emma ( 1830-1909). In 1832, Marilla Browning bought some additional land within present day Elam Township from the Mayfields. She built a log cabin which she called "Mayflower" for her new home. Within two years, she'd moved out and replaced it with another log cabin which she called "Meadowbrook". The Brownsons remained there until 1860 when they sold their holdings to Josephine Davenport who renamed it "Davenport Park". After purchasing Davenport Park from Josephine Davenport, Augustus Payson developed it into what is today known as Mayfield Heights. When he began developing the property in 1865, Payson included an alley between his homes at 5th Street and Elm Street that would eventually become known as Broad Ripple Avenue. He also built churches –Methodist Episcopal Church at 4th & Elm Streets in 1870 and Congregational Presbyterian Church at Broad Ripple & Patterson Streets in 1872 – both of which are now preserved as historical landmarks within the community itself. A third early development associated with Mayfield Heights was Storey's Grove which operated out of an old mill located on High Street just east of modern day Wright Road between 1865 and 1890s; this business later became known as The grocery store located on Main Street west of Broad Ripple Avenue today beginning around 1905 having originally been housed inside composer George Gershwin's childhood home on High Street prior to its purchase by Storey's Grove Corporation . It should be noted that although Storey's Grove likely originated contemporaneously with other businesses within present day Upper Arlington/Mayfield Heights such as The grocery store mentioned supra - evidence suggests that Grocery store operations were actually first established within present day Upper Arlington specifically throughStorey's Grove sometime before circa 1915 or 1916 - making this particularly significant given that Lower Arlington didn't begin specific gentrification efforts per se until about 1945 AD . In 1813, Mayfield Heights was laid out by James K. Polk and it became a part of the United States in 1821. On July 4, 1825, Ohio's first state constitution was ratified here. In 1830, the name of the town was changed to Euclid to honor its namesake, Euclid Avenue. The population grew rapidly during the 1830s due to colonization efforts and huge waves of immigration from Ireland and other parts of Europe; however, by 1840 their growth had slowed down significantly because of economic reasons. By 1850 the community had shrunk to just over 100 people and it lost all its manufacturing jobs during the American Civil War. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Mayfield Heights slowly rebound with new businesses starting up until World War II when many stores closed due to Prohibition.
