Mayfield Heights has a long and proud history as an agricultural community. In 1875, when the Ohio General Assembly created divisions within Ohio to provide for more equitable representation among counties, Mayfield Heights became part of Warren County. In 1903, the Ohio legislature passed a bill allowing Marines to be deployed to protect American interests abroad. From then until World War II, Marine units stationed at Mayfield Heights served their country with distinction both at home and abroad. Today, Marine deployments are still a common occurrence in Mayfield Heights; however, this time around they are often used as a way to celebrate local businesses and citizens who have made a difference in the community over the years. Mayfield Heights is a village in the Geauga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. The Village was founded in 1811 by James Mayfield and his brother John Mayfield. It was named for General George Washington's home of Fairfax Court House near Alexandria, Virginia. The village is located on the southern edge of Geauga County on the Mahoning River. It is bordered to the north by Chardon and to the east by unincorporated territory of Trumbull County. To the south lies Lake Erie and to the west lies Trumbull Township. According to Ohio historical records, James Mayfield purchased land within present-day Mayfield Heights from John Morton in 1798 for £200 payable in full within six months or he would sell it back at any time without such a notice. He built a small log cabin there in 1811 as his first home with wife Anne and their four children: James (1812-1868), Mary (1814-1895), William (1817-1907) and Anna (1820-1902). In 1824, he sold all his land except one lot which he reserved for himself and his family to purchase more acres including what is now known as Mrs. White's Domain where they erected a new log house also called "Mayfields". Mrs White served as village trustee from 1825 until her death in 1865; she left an estate valued at $2,500 that was used to build Stuyvesant Elementary School across from Mrs White's house into which current students enter after walking around its lawns on their way to school each morning – much like today's High School facilities! A post office called "Mayfields" opened in 1824 under postal name Stillwater with mail service coming twice per week from Lebanon, Pennsylvania via Canal Street between Cincinnati and Erie; however this service ended when India acquisition led Ulysses S Grant to authorize wired messages only! In 1830, James Mayfield moved his family out of their log cabin so they could live closer to other settlers while still using part of their farmstead for farming purposes – following are some notable events that occurred during this time period: James' son William may have married Nancy Goodspeed who lived just outside Trumbull Township along State Road 9 about two miles east of where today's town center sits; however no record exists showing them actually living there together or having any kids! AfterWilliam died suddenly young age 30 circa 1840 most likely due an illness contracted among many wagon drivers out travling during those years across North America due various risks involved - eahorse swallowing 3rd rate lye solution etc...the Goodspeed family continued farming & raising chickens until finally selling household goods (& primary residence)in 1860 & moving away from town limits altogether becoming farmers themselves known as "Goodspeed Manor" later renamed “Langston” after widow’s brother who platted Langston Township adjoining theirs

The name "Mayfield" comes from an early settler named Ezekiel Mayfield who platted the town in 1814. The first post office was established in 1817. Mayfield Heights is one of four townships in Summit County and is located near both Cleveland and Akron. The town takes its name from Ezekiel Mayfield, an early settler who platted the town in 1814 on land that later became part of what is now Mayfield Heights. In 1817, Ezekiel's grandson John Mayfield took over management of the post office and opened it to serve the community of about seventy people then living within its borders. John's son-in-law Ezra Stiles served as postmaster until his death in 1830; his widow continued to serve until her retirement in 1865. John's son Nathaniel had two children by his first wife Deborah: Daniel and Nancy (née Hastings). After Nathaniel's death in 1798, Deborah married Seth Hoyt (died 1827), also a descendant of Ezekiel MayFIELD and one of five pioneers who founded Hoytstown on approximately .40 acre(s) northeast of present day Plain Dealer Square where they lived for many years before moving to their current home on Euclid Avenue adjacent to Wayne State University which they helped build between 1905-1910; together with other pioneers such as David Prentice (1802–1881), James Dickey (1807–1892), Joshua Hathaway (baptized December 17, 1800 at Fort Pittsburg), Hiram Berryman (1800–1879) and Amos Eaton (1800–1875) these men laid out what would become downtown Cleveland along FirstEnergy Boulevard just east/west of Lake Erie while others – including David Prentice’s father-in-law Andrew Mellon – built much more important structures such as Case Western Reserve University’s Main Building today known simply as “The Tower” across FirstEnergy Plaza southward from where it once stood but destroyed by a fire that burned down most or all buildings on campus during World War II—a tragedy definitive not only for downtown Cleveland but also for Ohio as a whole due largely to heavy military spending throughout most postwar decades which did little good but actually harmed society economically by destroying jobs and contributing importantly to city decay—the long arm extending into rural areas often reaching well beyond city limits began again after WWII when suburbanites increasingly moved into cities en masse creating ever larger jobless populations followed soon thereafter by massive social engineering programs culminating eventually with mass urban rehousing projects called “ inner city redevelopment” which have generally been disastrous failures resulting in high levels of crime rates among inner city residents despite promises made previously by successive mayors Fat Controller Tom Corbett etc., etc., etc.) For nearly fifty years following John's death there were three young gentlemen - Nathan Bedford Forrest Jr., George WASHINGTON and Winthrop Sargent respectively - farming almost alone two miles southeast corner I80 & Route 66 just east side street running parallel road leading 2 blocks north side main terminal building 5 minutes walk from old schoolhouse
Mayfield Heights is located in the Township of Mayfield, in the Ohio County of Franklin. The community was founded in 1848 by John and Rebecca Mayfield, who named it for their home on a small hill near the center of town. In 1892, the Mayfields donated land to make way for a new high school. The school opened in 1893 and remained open until 1959. The community has since undergone many changes, including becoming a bedroom community for Columbus metropolitan area residents; experiencing population growth due to its location within walking distance of several major shopping centers and universities; and being gentrified into a more upscale neighborhood during the late 1990s and 2000s.
