Washington donated land to build up what would become Cleveland National Forest outside town; it became an national forest in 1926 following his death. In 1835, when Maumee was incorporated as a village proper with a population total OF only 50 people (), it boasted 1 steamboat landing & 2 stores which served primarily travelers bound for Toledo or Cuyahoga Falls via boatloads ferried over Muskegon River each morning on horseback across open country between Great Lakes villages During much of the 19th century there were few significant advances in transportation available without crossing the great lakes - thus wagon trains arriving laden with goods from Canada pushed through forests westward until they reached major settlements eastward whence commerce could be conducted

The1920s were a time of great social change with advances in technology including television and automobiles which led to strong economic growth during this decade. World War II brought many jobs to Ohioans and increased industrial production; however, poverty continued to exist throughout the war years.
