Maumee is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,837 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH-MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Maumee" is said to be derived from the Mohawk word "mawmae", meaning "big river." The first settler in what is now Maumee was David Dunham in 1814. By 1840, there were 10 families living in the town. The first store was built on Main Street in 1845 by John Dunham and his son Nathan. In 1870, Isaac Newton opened a grocery store on Third Avenue which became a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. In 1907, Jens Olsen started an agricultural fair that became one of the most popular events in town each year. For over fifty years it has been held at First Baptist Church Grounds with many large and small businesses exhibiting their products during this time period including ConAgra Foods Inc., Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation among others In recent years much attention has been given to downtown Maumee as it undergoes redevelopment including new restaurants, shops and office spaces being developed along East State Street with plans for another library addition Additionally new park areas have been added such as the KFC Center area which offers views of Lake Erie The community also hosted its first annual Harvest Festival on Saturday October 12th & 13th (2011) just outside of town Limits while inside of town they had a parade/festooning contest/vegetarian dinner

Maumee, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,276 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1814 by James A. Maumee and others as a site for a new post office called "Miamisburg". It was renamed to Maumee in 1836 after the Maumee River. The first settler in what is now Maumee was John Cuyahoga who arrived there in 1811. He built a log cabin on the present site of the city in 1813. Other early settlers included William Brown and Isaac Norris. In 1840, Adam Wills settled near what are now downtown Maumee and developed a flour mill which he operated until his death in 1865. In 1837, Cincinnati merchant Nicholas Biddle bought land located east of present-day Cleveland on the Scioto River from George Washington Carver for $1 million dollars. He began developing it into an agricultural center with five miles (8 km) of road leading to it from his property across the river toMaumee's mills on the Scioto River below. By 1840, Biddle had added other businesses such as tanning barns and hotels to his complex including one that still stands today known as “The White House” where Ulysses S Grant held his inauguration ceremonies during Grover Cleveland’s presidency (1897). By 1860, however, automobile travel had made transportation much more available than it had been before; this led to increased business traffic along Biddle Road between Dayton and Columbus which forced him to close down some of his enterprises when demand outstripped supply Nystad & Son Machine Works cotton ginners building machinery became obsolete because they could produce goods faster with less labor needed while also using less water due to advances in technology - this led them too closure although reopened briefly by 1920 under name Holland Machine Works Incorporated but closed again soon afterwards when ownership changed hands again
Maumee was the capital of Ohio from 1788 to 1800. The city was founded by the British in 1788 as a post office on the Scioto River, about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Cleveland. In 1801, Maumee became the capital of Michigan Territory after Detroit was designated as its capital.
