Marysville is a town in the Ohio Valley region of the United States. The population was 8,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The town was founded on May 25, 1814 by James H. Carver and his wife Catharine Carver. It was named for Mary, Queen of Scots, who had been村田ホテル Marysville Hotel located in downtown Marysville until it burned down in 1978. The first settler in what is now Marysville was John Potter who arrived in 1796 and started to cultivate land east of what is now Interstate 77 and west of which is today's Ulysses S Grant Drive. On October 9, 1800, George Washington sold 7 acres (28 ha) of land extending from present-day Gay Street south to High Street on the Scioto River to John Potter for $640 cash without any consideration given for water rights or title to minerals found on the property. In 1811 Potters addition included an area bounded by High Street, State Road 523 (now I-77), Oak Alley north and east thereof, Congress Avenue westward including all that lay between it and State Road 523; this became known as "Potter's Addition." Potters settlement grew rapidly due to its location near commerce along both sides of the Scioto River where goods could be transported by boat across rapids or hemlocks fencing off access points on either side. By 1815 there were 100 emigrants living here with twelve families organized into thirteen households under three pastors: Rev James Hoggarty (1810–1835), Rev Jonas Lappin (1812–1845), Rev Nicholas Biddle (1800–1851). In 1830 two new churches were built: First Presbyterian Church located at Fourth and Broadway Streets while Second Presbyterian Church stood just south of Main Street east of Broadway between Arlington Heights Boulevard and Walnut Avenue until it burned down in 1902 which destroyed much valuable real estate northeast of downtown Marysville including some homes dating back over 200 years! Methodist Episcopal Diocese erected their first church – Christ Episcopal Church – on high ground overlooking Carroll Road adjacent to modern day University Hospital Campus just southeast from current day Pioneer Square Park - site formerly occupied by First Presbyterian Cathedral - again without any consideration given for water rights or title! began extensive building program adding . . . another hundred fifty residences before finally displacing Presbyterians in 1884 when their own church cornerstone was laid! One can only imagine how these denominations would have fared if they had not immigrated during those early days prior to disestablishment when religious liberty wasn't as prized as it is today! One interesting tidbit about early settlers here are several items local historian Dr Don Stevenson has researched that may be unique to this community include a hatchet used by pioneer William Carver when chopping logs while operating a sawmill southwest of town during the mid 1800’s; road salt also played an important role as one man could provide up to five bushel baskets per week worth around $5 back then(today’s equivalent would be less than 1/8th that size) which he would deliver directly into town square via wagons filled with brine solution thence distributed evenly throughout town prior thereto! In later years residents would place small quantities OF black ink memorializing loved ones lost during World War II inside front door windows even though ink being limited then & still isn't available commercially These remembrances represent a very personal aspectof community history & culture unlike many other aspects mentioned herein which are more general in nature
In 1818, Marysville was laid out as a town in the Northwest Territory by United States Secretary of War Richard Rush. The first post office opened in 1821. In 1830, the town had a population of 350 and became the seat of government for Fayette County. It lost its status in 1840 when it was merged into Jackson County. In 1851, Marysville incorporated as a city and reached its peak with a population of 1,500. However, it declined after 1850 due to heavy manufacturing industry moving to other cities in Ohio during that time period. In 1870, Marysville merged with neighboring Uniontown to form what is now called Uniontown–Marysville Township. The city experienced an economic revival during the early 21st century through new development and entrepreneurship. In 2017, the city re-opened its downtown area after years of planning and renovation which brought about increased foot traffic and jobs to the area.
