Marysville is an incorporated town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. It was established as a village in 1824 and became a town in 1868. The name of the original town site is not known, but it probably has something to do with Mount Mary or Mary's Heights. The first settler in what is now Marysville was Levi Coffin who arrived on horseback from Maryland in 1825. He built a log cabin on the hill overlooking the mouth of the Scioto River and named his settlement "Mosesville". In 1830 he sold his land to Ohio Governor James Kieft for $1,000 cash. Mosesville grew rapidly due to its good harvests of corn and other crops and its access to water supplies. A post office was founded at Mosesville in 1831, and by 1840 there were more than twenty settlers living there. By 1850 there were over fifty residents living in "Mosesville". In 1834 John Crain moved from his home near Pittsburgh to become one of the first farmers in what is now MarysVILLE When he took up farming he did so on land that had been given him by General William Tecumseh Sherman when Sherman bought lands along the Scioto River for military purposes during theAmerican Civil War (1861-1865). In 1865 local citizens approved plans for a new town site on high ground east of downtown which would be accessible only by wagon road because of lack of appropriate trees or layout for houses or businesses. On July 15th, 1865, voters Packard Bros., Fenton & Company laid out their plat map showing their sixteen lots with streets running north-south and east-west (the present day downtown part of MarysVILLE) . The plat shows two churches - First Methodist (now christened Ascension Episcopal Church) and Second Presbyterian - each with seventeen acres surrounded by four lots given away as farms income helped pay off debts incurred while developing this new town site; residences ranged from one room shared by several families to three story brick buildings designed by architect Ebenezer Kirkland located on large lot #7 inside current day Quicken Loans Arena complex; theater/museum complex also included Lots 2 through 16 including today's building called Tower House which served as Post Office until 1951 when it burned down; school house built about 1860 still stands today across street from tower house - originally taught reading/math before it closed due to lack of pupils; millinery store opened about 1870 also still standing today across street from tower house - originally supplied pieces for hats & coats etc.; blacksmith shop opened about 1880 also still standing today across street from tower house; pioneer cemetery began being organized around 1830 near present day intersection of Main Street and State Road 100 just south side immediate west side OF millinery store; all these buildings are still extant except Millinery Store which burned down 56 years ago
