Marysville is a city in, and the county seat of Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,711 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Hamilton County after Cincinnati. Marysville is located on the Scioto River just east of downtown Cincinnati and north of Reynoldsburg. The first people to live in what is now Marysville were Native American Indians who called it "Moccasin Town". A post office was established at Marysville on October 6, 1824 by Major General David Wilkinson. On February 14, 1830, Alfred Strom Thurston became the first mayor of Marysville with James Leland as his assistant. In 1854–55 William Tilton built a small sawmill and gristmill on the Scioto River which became one of the largest mills in Northern Ohio until it closed in 1971. In 1870–71 Hiram Holliday began developing land south of town along Pritchard's Creek into what would become known as Holliday's Addition (named for him). Marysville is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. The name of the town was given to the location by General George Washington and his army during their march through central Ohio on their way to get reinforcements for the French and Indian War. At that time, many of Washington's men were sick or having surgery and needed medical supplies close by so they named the town after Mount Vernon where he was living at the time. The first settler in Marysville was David Henshaw who arrived in 1795. He built a cabin on land that now forms part of the village of Marysville. A few years later, John Sherer also moved into this area and began farming. By 1810, there were nine families living in what is now Marysville. In 1812, General William Henry Harrison's forces invaded central Ohio as part of his march to Towanda Ridge against TecUMec Chief Pontiac. After reaching Marysville late on October 25th due east of Cleveland, he camped for three days before moving on October 30th direction towards Detroit which he reached two days later On November 3rd General Harrison left Marysville with 1,500 troops en route back home via Perrysburg-on-the-Lake and Cadiz before arriving at Fort Erie on November 8th The Battle of Ballston Lake took place near present day Celina Township when American General James Wilkinson attacked British Colonel Edward Braddock's brigade under Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Gist After a hard fought battle lasting three hours Wilkinson emerged victorious but lost over 20 killed and 50 wounded including brigadier general George Washington who was also taken prisoner (he would be freed four years later) This victory marked one small step for American arms but it represented an important turning point as it made possible for future campaigns such as crossing Canada without help from English forces
Moses H. Potter, who was born in 1815, the son of a farmer in Marysville, Ohio, grew up on a small family farm and attended school there until he was twelve. He then worked on his father's farm until he went to college at Youngstown State University and studied law. When he was thirty-four years old, Potter married Julia Cranch and they moved to Marysville. They had two children and operated a grocery store for many years before retiring in 1960. In 1984, they donated their home and land to the town of Marysville for use as an open air museum.
