The business grew rapidly and by 1912, Sweeney had built a larger store on the corner of Third Avenue and State Street. In 1916, Sweeney passed away and his wife became the first female owner of a Marion coffee shop. She continued to run the business until her death in 1946. In 1924, the Oregon Coffee Company opened their own store in Marion and began selling coffee from their original roasting plant located on State Street. The company continued to operate in Marion until its closure in 1984. At the end of World War II, many soldiers returning home found themselves without jobs or money to buy food or drink. This led to a new trend among American servicemen of traveling to European countries for refreshment during wartime. One such soldier was John Akins who traveled to Italy as part of Operation Neptune's Spear and met Italian soldiers there who were selling espresso drinks called "torpedo". After tasting these drinks for himself, he convinced Allied forces stationed there to start purchasing Italian-made coffee from local farms instead of using American beans. As a result, Patton's troops enjoyed Turkish Coffee during their stay in Rome while also gaining an appreciation for Italy's cultural heritage which they would later use as inspiration for their 1944 invasion plan known as Operation Husky

Marion, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 54,591 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Cuyahoga County after Cleveland and Akron. It is the second most populous city in Greater Cleveland behind Cleveland proper. The area that became Marion was first settled by Native Americans in 1653 as part of the Shawnee Nation. The town was founded on September 8, 1824 by Colonel George Stephenson with help from General David Welles. The town was named for Samuel Marbury, an American politician who fought against British forces during the American Revolution. In 1829, Marion became part of what would become Cuyahoga County and grew rapidly due to its location at the convergence of several wagon routes linking up with other settlements along Lake Erie. In 1830, it had a population of 10 people; by 1840 it had 30 residents and 300 businesses; and by 1850 it had 400 residents and 1,000 businesses. By 1870, when annexation into Cleveland created new municipal boundaries, Marion's population had grown to 3,500 citizens. During World War II large numbers of Italians were recruited into military service in America through Operation Husky as part of Axis powers' effort to bring over Jews as slave labor for munitions production across Nazi-occupied Europe (the term " concentration camp" did not exist until 1945). As many as 2 million Italian Americans were living in America before Pearl Harbor; following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 these Italians were rounded up and immediately held without trial or charge within concentration camps known as "X-ray" camps located throughout occupied America such as Topeka/Leavenworth Kansas), some being sent directly to Auschwitz concentration camp where over 100 000 died including 3000 children under five years old which was open from 1940 until 1945 . Most affected were African Americans who made up about 50% (more than 6000 men) of all Italian Americans living in North America prior to Pearl Harbor but suffered heavily from arrest and detention at these camps which often amounted to forced labour , transportation back home via trainspotato fields 1942 – 1944 or incarceration deep inside one’s own home . In 1814, it became part of the United States and was named for General George Washington. The history of Marion began with small villages that sprang up along the Ohio River during the time when Ohio was still part of France. By 1830, however, all but one of these villages had been abandoned due to difficulties encountered in accessing transportation or water supplies. In 1834–35, President Andrew Jackson issued an executive order authorizing construction of a road from Cincinnati to Cleveland through Harrison County. This road would provide commerce with new markets possible located west of Pittsburgh and east of Cleveland; it would also help connect Indiana with Ohio Territory via this route. The Order also called for the establishment of three stations on this road: Atcarrosse (now Toledo), Scioto Junction (now Xenia), and Mayfield (now Lima). Although only one station was constructed— at Scioto Junction—this order helped spark development in area around Mariontown across the river from Atcarrosse village . In 1840–41 following Indian Removal proceedings initiated by President John Quincy Adams, about 4500 Indians were removed from their homes near present-day Toledo to live on what is now eastern Indiana . Among these individuals were about 350 men referred to as "Marion Boys." They traveled by boat downriver until they reached present-day Cincinnati where they boarded wagons heading northeastward . After spending some time in western Pennsylvania , they arrived at Fort Wayne on September 10th , 1840 . On October 1st , they set out again on horseback through designated trails led by Captains David Dixon and James Paulding towards what is now Indianapolis Their destination: what is today Greeneville Township within present-day Lucas County From there they walked overland until reaching their final destination at White Sands Creek on December 12th – three days after leaving Fort Wayne After disembarking from their wagon trains at White Sands Creek , many joined local farmers in raising crops while others founded businesses such as tanneries or breweries . Many key events which took place during this time period include: first appearance of a steamboat on Lake Erie ; erection of white frame courthouse – built atop an earlier erected log building ; opening of first railroad line between Covington Heights/Cincinnati & Decatur Junction – providing transportation links between different parts of Ohio ; settlement by various groups including Germans (1848) & Irish (1849); census results list 8 residents living in township including Captain Dixon & Mr Paulding
