Marion, Ohio is a small town located in the heart of the Buckeye State. It has been populated for over 120 years and today is one of the most historical towns in Ohio. One of the earliest settlers to Marion was Samuel Cobb, who arrived in 1818. The Cobb family founded a grocery business on Main Street. In 1835, they built a home on Delaware Road and named it after their daughter, Marion (whose maiden name was also Cobb). The family operated their store until 1840 when they sold it to John Ketchum. In 1865, General David Hunter entered into an agreement with President Abraham Lincoln to purchase land east of Dayton for $5 per acre. He named this area “Marion” after his wife, Martha Washington Hunter-Lincoln. The town began expanding rapidly as residents came to live and work there. By 1870, there were 100 residents in Marion; by 1880, there were 300 people living there. In 1893, Mayor James Aiken dedicated the first “White House” at what is now Market Square in Marion – this was later known as the White House Annex – which served as the town hall from 1892 until 1912 when it was replaced by the current structure on Delaware Road (now Third Avenue). In 1905, America’s first air mail service commenced operations from Cincinnati via Akron to Medina County; Marion became one of its stopovers. By 1907, agricultural production had become predominant in Marion due to its fertile soil and good climate; accordingly, many businesses moved into town during that period including breweries (The Lancaster Brewery opened in 1907), grocers (The Grist Mill Store opened in 1909) and lumberyards (The Lumber Yard & Warehouse Corporation leased space at Fourth Avenue and Delaware Road from 1911 until 1915). In 1916-17 alone, five new businesses opened within two years of each other within walking distance of each other: banks (First National Bank opened at Fourth Avenue and Delaware Row in 1916), physicians (Drury Medical Supply Company rented office space at Second Street and High Street from 1917 until 1919), editors/publishers (The News-Herald Companyopened at Third Avenue and Third Street from 1922 until 1925), attorneys (Wright & Whitney Law Office rented space at First Place between Second Streetand Third Avenue from 1923 until 1926) and dressmakers/shopkeepers (=the Browning Shop Incorporated closed down 1932). During World War I efforts were made by local officials to get materials for munitions production but these failed due to prohibitive costs; nonetheless manufacturing took place anyway along with some light industry like aircraft manufacture which produced wings for planes used during WWI Afterward traffic decreased significantly because prices went up while jobs dried up Many citizens left because they could not support high school tuition rates even though many families did have higher incomes than ever before This resulteded major changes such as moving out towards Lima or beyond When riots broke out throughout much of Cleveland following WWI those residents decided that enough was enough They started leaving too so that businesses could stay open However soon afterwards prices increased again Which caused more people leave again But finally things calmed down With new leadership coming into power things picked up Again but still remain below prewar levels

In 1814, the United States acquired Ohio from Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Ghent.
