In 1820 he founded what would become known as Cranchstown Village on what is now Old National Highway 10 outside of town. The village served as a base of operations for his Trading Post Company which traded goods with Native Americans and other settlers throughout central Ohio. In 1824 Cranch married Margaret Stephenson who had also come to America from Great Britain. They moved to this new community which they named after their daughter Marion (the name given to them by General Washington Marion). Over time their village grew into a bustling commercial center with retail stores, hotels and restaurants catering to both local residents and travelers passing through on their way to or from Cincinnati or elsewhere in central Ohio. In 1902-03 when Columbus successfully annexed neighboring townships including West Chesterfield Township (formerly part of Butler County) - including much of today's downtown - Marion came within one vote of becoming an incorporated municipality under the name "Marion." At that time its population was just over 6300 people; however since then it has steadily grown until reaching its current size of 7600+ inhabitants today! The city experienced significant growth due largely to two factors: First, it became an important transportation hub connecting various parts of centralOhio via railroads; second, it became home to two major universities: US Military Academy (USMA) – established in 1861 as one of the original four United States Military academies –and Cleveland State University (CSU), established in 1907 – both providing ample opportunities for education/employment opportunities within its walls!
