The city reached its peak with its incorporation as a town on October 15, 1835; it has since declined somewhat due to becoming suburbanized and lack of commercial development outside the limits of its original community center around Delaware Avenue and Sweetwater Creek. In 1870, when Cincinnati annexed much of central Ohio into its territory including Marion Township (now unincorporated), much growth took place within township boundaries only; however, because Cincinnati would not allow townships to annex any other areas beyond their borders without consent from both sides it effectively ceased to exist as an entity separate from Cincinnati until 1965 when it became one unit with added precincts within the newly formed City of Cincinnati proper along East Side Road east of Market Street - which included parts then inside today's Arlington Heights neighborhood - while continuing to maintain full municipal governmentwikilinkages between those two entities.
