Gun gift history in Marietta, Ohio began with the purchase of a rifle by George L. Allbright on November 2, 1866. The Allbright Rifle Museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying firearms from that time period. The museum has over 1,000 firearms and items related to the gun industry. The first shotgun was purchased by Samuel Fenton on December 3, 1868. A few months later, a rifle was also purchased by Fenton. It is believed that this rifle was acquired for use in the Civil War. On January 28, 1870, a revolver was bought by John Crouch from James Riddle. This revolver is one of the only known examples of its type existing in existence today. The first handgun to be purchased in Marietta was an armadillo pistol on May 15, 1871. This pistol is now located at the Marietta Arsenal Museum and it served as the official weapon of choice for local law enforcement until 1911 when pistols became available with more rounds per clip (the .45 Colt). In 1893-1894, another armadillo pistol was purchased by J H Bowen from Wm B Nolen & Son Ltd.. Huffman's tavern served as an important stop for travelers on their way to Chillicothe and Cincinnati during that period. Downtown MARIETTA contains some significant historical sites dating back to this time including: Huffman's Tavern (now known as Moyer Place) where travelers could get refreshments before continuing their journey; City Hall which served as the local courthouse until 1902 when Richland County moved into action and built its own courthouse within minutes' walk of downtown MARIETTA; First Baptist Church also dates back to this time and still serves as a religious center for locals and visitors alike; and most notably McKnight Brewery – home to many iconic dishes such as wings – which continues today despite being closed for more than fifty years! Downtown MARIETTA also includes several blocks long filled with businesses that have since been demolished or replaced by newer structures but whose names are still familiar to residents due to their close proximity: Onondaga Avenue between Third Street NW and Fourth Street NW stretching allthe way down Toole StreetNW from Market Street NE - thus giving rise to nearby Onondaga Park - Merchant Streets between Fifth Street NW and Sixth Street NW extending eastward from Front Street SE - giving rise to nearby Middletownople Park while Allentown Avenueongeast from SecondStreet SE forms an concurrency with FifthStreet NE forming an even longer block contiguous with Merchants Streets once again giving rise to adjoining Allentown Mall - all these streets are now used for vehicular traffic only!
