After several days of fighting, National Yugoslav Army general Milan Kukic surrendered at Drinovac on October 17th with no surrender terms given and all Popes present witnessed his capitulation along with other leading officials from Yugoslavia including Marshal Josip Broz Tito who ruled Yugoslavia as president for four years until he was overthrown in 1945 by communist partisans led by Ante Pavelić. After World War II ended, Communist Romania took control over most of what remained of Yugoslavia while Albania continued its own government within Romania which also controlled Kosovo region adjacent to Macedonia which had been annexed by Albania as well as large stretches of South-central Bulgaria including Dobruja which had been added to Romania during wartime.[1] On February 20th 1947 a Treaty between Stalin's Russia and Churchill's United Kingdom recognized claims by both nations over parts of southeastern Europe followingOperation Dragoon - an Allied military operation aimed at preventing Axis forces from entering Hungary proper then rolling through Austria into Czechoslovakia before turning towards Budapest – left much disputed territory including Macedonia lying unresolved outside NATO control although it eventually became part ofFYROM under the name Republic Of Macedon (ROK).
