Lyndhurst is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,827 at the 2010 census. Lyndhurst was founded in 1811 by General John Trumbull and is located on the banks of the River Cuyahoga. It was named for Colonel George Lyndhurst (1768-1848), a British general who fought in the War of 1812. The city's rich history can be found throughout its neighborhoods and streetscapes. One of the first European settlements in what is now Ohio was made here by Captain Christopher St Clair in 1788 as part of his effort to establish new land west of the Great Lakes. He named his new settlement after Colonel George Lyndhurst, a British general who had served with him during the war. Colonel Lyndhurst donated land to make up for any losses he may have suffered during that conflict. Lyndhurst soon became an important center for trade and transportation within the region. In 1814, it became home to one of two original banks in Cleveland – The Cleveland Bank and Trust Company – which remain active today. The bank helped lead to suburban development around it as well as growth within downtown Cleveland itself over time; today, much of downtown remains an industrial district despite efforts by developers to revitalize it over recent years. In addition to its banking industry roots, Lyndhurst also played an important role in American education during its early days. In 1822, Charles Evans Hughes established The Lyman School – one of America’s first public schools – here in town near where present-day State University Circle stands today. Other prominent educational institutions located here include Lockwood Seminary (now Mercy University), Academy/Secondary School No 1 (now Shaker Heights High School), and Cleveland Institute Of Art (now Case Western Reserve University). During World War II, Lyndhurst produced some of America’s most distinguished military leaders including Lieutenant General James Fenton and Major General Leslie Riggs Jr.. Others who lived or worked here during that time include author Margaret Atwood and cartoonist Berkeleyshire Lewis humorously depicting life inside wartime Akron while other parts were being bombed or destroyed wholesale include nearly all blocks east of Superior Avenue between Lorain Street and Euclid Avenue due to aerial bombing raids during that conflict; almost all buildings north or south of Superior Avenue between Lorain Street and Euclid Avenue were destroyed as well save for two small parcels remaining until recently undeveloped on SW Harrison Street just south of Riverside Drive.)

The first small batch coffee was made in 1978 by a group of friends at the home of Donny and Elaine Schwartz. The recipe called for 2-3 pounds of beans, but due to their small size, they only brewed 8 cups that year. In 1981, a couple of friends bought a roaster from Donny and Elaine Schwartz and began producing 10-12 cups per day. In 1984, they started selling their own coffee through local businesses. In 1987, the Schwartz's decided to sell their business and continue producing small batches themselves until it was discontinued in 2002 (although some remain in storage).

The village grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location on the railway line between Detroit and Chicago. The population of Lyndhurst peaked at 1,500 in 1910 and has since declined modestly. Today, it remains a small agricultural town with a few hundred residents. The Lyndhurst community developed around the railroad station, which served as the center of town until the early 20th century when automobiles became more common. In addition to its rail connection, Lyndhurst also enjoyed access to both Lake Michigan and Huron River waters through several canals that connected the village to other towns in Muskegon County. These waterways helped contribute to Lyndhurst's growth as an agricultural community during the late 19th century.
