Lyndhurst, Ohio is home to the world’s only full-time police department. The department has been in operation since 1867 and today boasts a population of just over 7,000 people. Today, the Lyndhurst Police Department gift history can be traced back to 1867 when a group of citizens founded the department as a way to provide law enforcement services to their community. Initially, the officers who worked for the department were all volunteers. Over time, however, it became clear that not everyone in the community wanted or needed law enforcement services. So, in 1907, a permanent police force was born and named after then Mayor George Wernham (pictured). One of the first tasks of the new force was to patrol Lyndhurst streets night and day. This wasn’t an easy task given that at that time there were no streetlights and most residents had to rely on stars or candles to see their cars at night. However, despite this challenge, patrols continued until 1912 when an electric lights system was installed on town roads. The following year saw another big milestone for Lyndhurst when Mayor Wernham ordered construction of what would become known as “the great white house” – a large building which now dominates downtown (pictured). The house served as both headquarters for the new police force and also functioned as a jail during times of emergency. It wasn’t long before members of the public started coming up with ideas for how they could help improve policing in their community – one such idea was creating honorary ranks within the department for different types of officers who contributed unique skills or expertise. In 1916, Captain Harry Hines became captain general and began putting together unit plans which eventually led to creation of units like traffic control unit (TCU), detective squad (DS), ambulance unit (AU) and plainclothes unit (PNU). As crime rates increased in Lyndhurst during World War I (!), mandatory military service made it difficult for many citizens to afford uniforms so these units were also created specifically for law enforcement purposes – like special constables! Lyndhurst is a small town in central Ohio, United States. It is the only incorporated community in the unincorporated towns of Lyndhurst Township and South Lyndhurst Township. The population was 6,711 at the 2010 census. The area that now forms Lyndhurst was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. The name "Lyndhurst" derives from an old Englishman's name for a settlement on the Scioto River near where it flows into Lake Erie. In 1814, landowner Solomon Northrop donated land to build a school and farmstead within what is now Lyndhurst Township. When Northrop died in 1835, his estate was divided among his family members and friends, with property developers receiving title to parcels of land around town. The north side of town became known as South Lyndhurst Township while the south side became known as East Lynhurst Township. Today, most people identify themselves as citizens of either township or just Lyndhurst itself; there are no other towns within their municipal boundaries. From its founding until 1957, when it merged with neighboring South Lyndhurtsboro to form a single municipality, much of what makes up today's Lyndhurtsboro happened through purchases and gifts from landowners who owned large tracts of land surrounding town limits on both sides of the Scioto River. Today these lands include most of present-day West Lynnwood and parts of present-day East Lynnwood as well; all these neighborhoods were formed during this time period when township boundaries did not coincide with those currently embraced by Lyndhurst Township and South Lynnwood Township

Lyndhurst is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Lyndhurst is located in the Western Reserve of Ohio and is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is one of the oldest towns in Muskingum County and has been around since 1812 when it was incorporated as a village by order of General Washington. Lyndhurst's rich history can be found throughout its area including its downtown district which preserves many examples from early American settlements such as Fort Pitt (later Pittsburgh) and West Point (today's Trotter Army National Military Park). The Village Green features an intricately designed fountain that dates back to 1812 while other historic buildings include a Federal courthouse built in 1841, an old library building dating back to 1849, and a Masonic lodge built in 1897. In honor of Lyndhurst's history, numerous events have been held throughout the year including commemoration days for both Revolutionary War veterans who fought here and local businesses that donated items to various charities during holiday seasons. Most notably are Memorial Day Weekend which sees extensive festivities including parades and concerts on Main Street while also featuring several eateries specializing in all things Patriots day related food like fried onions with bacon grease or apple sauce; cider donuts with cinnamon sugar; colonial cookies; bagels with cream cheese frosting or poppyseed buttercream; pumpkin pies- usually made with whipped cream instead of pie filling Today, much like many small towns across America, Lyndhurst continues to thrive thanks to its residents' passion for life - whether it's spending time outdoors playing touch football or attending local community events like farmers markets or art shows at local galleries- making this place one you will never want to leave!
Lyndhurst was founded in 1810 by Colonel John Prentice and his wife, Deborah. The town was named for General George Washington's home of Mount Vernon. In 1817, the first school was built in Lyndhurst. The first post office opened in Lyndhurst on July 1, 1818. The first store was operated by Captain John Ladd from a log cabin on the Lyndhurst River. In 1824, Captain Ladd donated land to build a courthouse and jail in Lyndhurst. The jail was completed in 1830 and served as the town's main courthouse until it closed in 1870. In 1861, General Robert Ewing purchased land adjacent to Lyndhurst from the Prentice family for $2,500. He began construction on what is now known as Ewing College which opened its doors to students in 1865. In 1896, Ewing College merged with Ohio Wesleyan University and became one of the largest institutions of higher learning east of the Allegheny Mountains. In 1922, Wittenberg University merged with Ohio Wesleyan University and became one of the largest universities west of Cincinnati as well as one of America's foremost theological schools The town experienced some major growth during World War II with an influx of veterans who constructed munitions plants or worked at war-time industries such as airplane manufacturing or shipbuilding . After the war ended, many businesses left town while others struggled through economic hard times that continue to this day
