The history of the navy in Lyndhurst, Ohio dates back to 1853. The town was founded by wagon-train drivers who took goods to Cincinnati and other cities on the Great Lakes. In 1855, a pier was built south of town for loading barges with goods from the Great Lakes. This pier is now known as Pier 21. In 1861, General Ulysses S. Grant visited Lyndhurst and saw the navy yard being constructed. He ordered that it be built quickly so that American ships could be armed and ready for war when called upon. The navy Yard was completed in 1865 and became operational. It housed a variety of shipbuilding companies including Lucas Shipbuilding Company, Pugh & Sons Shipbuilding Company, Waddell & Hennigan Shipyards, etc. The navy played an important role during World War II and has been mentioned several times in various books about the conflict. For example, Captain John McCain’s memoir “No Quarter: A Memoir of Naval Warfare in World War II” mentions how Admiral Chester Nimitz called on President Franklin D Roosevelt to send more warships to fight in the war because “the Navy had failed conspicuously at Pearl Harbor” . The navy also played an important role after its conclusion in 1945 with Operation Overlord which led to Germany's unconditional surrender . Today, the navyyard remains active but is not used as much due to technological advancements such as 3D printing technology which allows for faster production of ships than ever before possible . Additionally, since there are no military forces based in Lyndhurst currently ( save for US Marines), most naval activity takes place out of Toledo or greater Cleveland area .

The USS Lyndhurst (AN-38) was a defense destroyer that served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1958. She was built at the Bethlehem Steel Company, Inc., in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and launched on 9 January 1944. She was commissioned into the US Navy on 12 May 1944. She served as an escort destroyer in the North Pacific during World War II and as a patrol vessel in the Atlantic Ocean during the Korean War. After serving her tour of duty in Japan she decommissioned on 7 July 1958 and was sold to Philippines for scrapping.
Lyndhurst is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. It is the home of The Lyndhurst Village Museum and Park. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Lyndhurst was founded in 1800 as a farming community on the then-prairies of central Ohio. Today, it is a bedroom community with close relationships to Cincinnati and Columbus. The first European settlers in what would become Lyndhurst were French traders who established trading posts along the Great Miami River in 1814. In 1825, the Erie Canal was completed and brought much traffic to and from Cincinnati; some of this traffic caused economic development near Lyndhurst's junction with the canal. One result of this increased trade was that farmers began moving into what became Lyndhurst from other parts of central Ohio to develop their land there. In 1850, while still a part of Hamilton County, Lyndhurst incorporated as an independent city under its own governance structure separate from Hamilton County's rural areas east of Dayton; it remains one of only two cities in Ohio (the other being Cleveland) that has done so since before statehood in 1905. In 1861–1865, during the American Civil War, many citizens served in Confederate military units; few residents chose to join forces against their countrymen despite offers by Union authorities for bounties for such service (a practice known as “drafting”). On July 10th 1865 - four days after Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House - Mayor John Mackey proclaimed that "Lyndhurst will forever be grateful for her portion in this great drama" and ordered flags flown at half-staff throughout the city through September 25th commemorating all those whose lives had been lost or damaged as a result of war efforts here including Major General Oliver O'Neal Aldrich who had organized most resistance inside Virginia's capital Richmond. It should be noted that many people living within easy commuting distance served actively or passively against Confederate government - both men and women took up arms where they could find opportunity (and sometimes got more than they bargained for). Many residents also volunteered their labor on local farms during Reconstruction which ended three years later when Lincoln took office. After Reconstruction ended & newly elected leaders realized property values would increase if/when black Americans were allowed onto municipal boundaries (& voting rights were granted), they enacted laws forbidding blacks from owning or residing within municipality limits until well into the 21st century--a policy known today as " residential segregation ". This strict law led to Lynwood's nickname "The Ghetto". The last African American resident moved out around 1990s due to high taxes but significant acreage remaining undeveloped makes it possible today visit any time regardless race without feeling uncomfortable

The town continued to grow until the 1850s, when the railroad arrived and transportation became more important. The railroads brought jobs and people to Lyndhurst, which led to further growth. lynhurst's economy changed from agriculture to manufacturing during this time period. In 1865, Lyndhurst became a city and remained that way until 1951 when it merged with Findlay into one municipality
Lyndhurst was founded in 1814 by General James Wilkinson. The community was named for Colonel Nathaniel Lyndhurst, a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Ohio Provincial Congress. The first post office was established in Lyndhurst in 1824. In 1845, Lyndhurst became the seat of government for Butler County. In 1870, the county seat moved to Decatur and Lyndhurst became an unincorporated community again. In 1915, the United States Post Office moved from Decatur to Lyndhurst and it remains an active post office today.
