Loveland, Ohio is a small town in southeastern Ohio that is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 26,811 at the 2010 census. Loveland was founded in 1836 by John Denton and named for his friend, James Loveland, who had purchased land east of present-day Loveland from David Thompson in 1815. In 1860, a group of men led by Andrew Jordon founded the First National Bank here with $3,000 capital raised from local landowners. In 1865–67, during the American Civil War, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through this region while conducting an advance into central Ohio to move supplies toward troops stationed near Cincinnati. Confederate forces quickly burned most buildings abandoned by Unionists as they retreated along Third Street; however, one building still stands to this day as evidence of what occurred: a large limestone plaque that reads "First National Bank – Lincoln Avenue"
