In 1922, Loveland became the first city in the United States to establish a military garrison. The city's first Commander-in-Chief was Rear Admiral J.C.G. Beattie, who served from 1922 to 1923 and then Mayor John Tisdale who served from 1923 until 1924. The 127th Infantry Regiment of the Ohio National Guard was stationed in Loveland for one year before being transferred to Cleveland. In 1934, the regiment moved again, this time to Cincinnati where it remained until 1946 when it was disbanded due to budget cuts at home. In 1937, Mayor John Tisdale signed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a park on Main Street in downtown Loveland dedicated to America's Veterans and Their Families (AVF). The park would include a parade ground, training field, rifle range and Monument Park which would house a statue of General George Custer. On July 4th of that year, AVF members walked off their jobs at local businesses and paraded through downtownLoveland in memory of their fallen comrades during World War I and World War II

Loveland, Ohio is a small town in the heart of Ohio, located about 60 miles southeast of Cleveland. The population was 15,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. Loveland was founded by Englishman George Washington and his family in 1799 as a small farming community known as Xenia. In 1813, Loveland became part of the new United States territory Cass County after it was acquired from British East India Company officials. A year later, it became an independent village when all other Cass County villages were combined into one entity under the leadership of General David Wooster. The first post office in Loveland opened on October 10, 1814 and continued operation until it closed on July 14, 1865 due to low mail traffic. The first store in town was built by Isaac Brockman and operated for six months before being shuttered because of financial difficulties caused by the Panic of 1837. In 1840, John Crouse opened a general store which remains open today as one of Loveland's most popular businesses. By 1851, business had grown so much that two stores were needed and Brockman reopened his original store with 1 ½ stories high and 12 feet wide inside a large square porch that still stands today.
