Loomis was originally called "Riemen" after Captain David Riemen who explored this region in 1794-1795 while serving as commander of American forces during the War for Independence under General Samuel Adams; however that name never caught on among locals so it reverted to "Loomis" in 1907 when it annexed Whitehouse Township In 1901-1902 efforts were made to open up country between Loon Lake and Ironton Reservoir which failed but subsequently resulted in construction of Ironton Dam which provided irrigation water for much of east central Ohio until it closed in 1972 due to lack of demand; it had been estimated that up until 1971 $3 million worth allogeneic blood had accrued from farming operations supplying water for Dayton's major hospitals In 1937-1938 there was a concern about overpopulation within Loveland due to increasing job opportunities available outside town due to Interstate 75 being built just north/west of town - since then more people have moved into Loveland over time although many remain employed within government or industry sectors
