Loveland is a city in and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 97,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Loveland was a French Jesuit priest named Pierre-Jacques Marquette in 1805. He named it "Ville de l'Eagle" (City of the Eagle) because he saw an eagle flying over the town on his way back from a missionary trip to Canada. In 1810, John Fitch established the first post office in what is now Loveland. The town was originally laid out as a village by Nicholas Morton and others and organized as a town on March 15, 1814 by order of Governor James K. Polk with additions from April 14 until December 3 that year by order of President James K. Polk Jr.. In 1825, a group of settlers led by Solomon Miles founded the Village Green Manufacturing Company which became one of America's largest manufacturers of candles and oil well wagons before going bankrupt in 1830.
