Lorain, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lorain County. The population was 66,893 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Ohio. It is also the most populous city in Butler County, which includes much of Cleveland metropolitan area. The Cuyahoga River forms part of Lorain's border with Cleveland and Lake Erie. The first settlement in what is now Lorain was made on May 20, 1788 by Jacob Blankenship and his family after they arrived from upstate New York via canoe on the Scioto River. In 1801, John Fenton bought land along the Cuyahoga River from Anthony Wayne for $1 million and named it "Lorain". On July 26, 1803, Stephen Atherton patented a tract of land that would later become known as "City Park" to allow easy access by wagon trains carrying goods to Cleveland from points eastward. In 1810–11, Captain Michael Conroy built a sawmill on High Street near what is now Chardon Square downtown. That mill provided lumber for many early buildings in town including Lorain's first courthouse (first courthouse building date unknown). In 1830s/40s some new brick homes were erected around this time including one called Orchard Hill which still stands today across High Street from where Captain Conroy’s mill operated until 1840 when it burned down due to an arsonist attempt (it has been rebuilt several times since then). In 1851–52 during Andrew Johnson’s presidency riots took place throughout America following his inauguration; four days later President James Buchanan issued an executive order ordering all African Americans not to come into America without their owner’s consent – this led to open warfare between mobs! A group of about 50 African American men under leadership of Captains Benjamin Hawkins and Isaac Dickson traveled south from Baltimore through Lancaster County on horseback towards Elyria late on November 7th night before reaching Toledo about 11 pm CST but were met with resistance at every stop – finally arriving at Toledo around 2 am ESTNovember 8th morning! They had intended primarily to market themselves as laborers while traveling but quickly became involved in looting houses along their route as well! After reaching Elyria they split into two groups with Captains Hawkins & Dickson going north towards Sandusky while Captains Hawkins & Abraham Lincoln went south towards Youngstown (this event is sometimes incorrectly referred to as “The Battle Of Elyria” or “The Founding Of Loraine” because there was no actual battle fought): Abraham Lincoln turned back pursued by local militiamen upon encountering them whileCaptains Hawkins & Isaac Dickson managed to flee back into town) This event has been variously interpreted as either a sign that black Americans could not successfully integrate into white society or an example of how oppression can leadto violence against those who are considered “otherness” within society . Thereafter Captain Michael Conroy reopened his sawmill hotel next door using part of its lumber which he stockpiled duringthe rioting althoughnever again producing any logs large enoughtobuild anew .A numberof other small businesses followed over time suchas grocery stores(Jensen Hardware), druggists(Mason Drug Store), barber shops(Shaw Barber Shop), bakery(Foster Bread Company)and laundry facilities (Lincoln Laundry Company) however these establishments failed mainly because transportation costs became too prohibitively expensive compared tothese typical pioneers mills which continued operating until shortly before World War II

Lorain, Ohio is a small town in southern Ohio on the Mahoning River. The population was 7,815 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lorain County. The name Lorain comes from French La Nouvelle-Orléans, which means "New Orleans." The first settler in what is now Lorain County was Nicholas Denison and his family in 1788. That year, denison's father, Jonathan Denison, purchased 2,333 acres (100 km²) of land north of present-day Lorain on the Scioto River for $5 per acre ($0.50 to $1/km²). By 1800, there were 100 residents living in what became known as Denison Township. In 1814, David Ransom erected a log cabin on the banks of the Mahoning River near present-day Perrysburg. A year later he marriedElizabeth Cook and moved into this cabin with their two children Samuel and Anna Cook. The couple operated a ferry service between Perrysburg and Lorain for several years before moving to their current location near downtown Lorain in 1827. In 1835 they built a second cabin on this property which served as their home until it burned down in 1903. The first post office was established at Denison Landing on May 4, 1830 by order of President James Kieft; it had been closed by October 1st that year because mail could not be delivered due to Native American hostilities nearby. On November 10th 1830 postmaster David Ransom received an order from Ulysses S Grant ordering him to open up post offices along all US borders including those within British Canada until such time as all outstanding Indian removal issues were resolved. So while one may think that only Americans could get mail here during these early days there must have been quite some people who did business with both Indians and Europeans because there are numerous documents and artifacts dating back to this time that testify to our town’s roots! On December 5th 1830 Orin Cady came ashore from his ship “Providence” about 12 miles (19 km) distant from where he had landed three weeks earlier when he sighted land bearing the same name but different coordinates so upon landing difficulties were met immediately finding Prairie du Chien local man Pierre Dorion who took Mr Cady under his wing providing him with shelter for nine days leading up to January 3rd 1831 when Pierre Dorion voluntarily left after learning about government regulations against privateering off indigenous nations without their consent! No charges or consequences resulted however as Pierre Dorion knew nothing about any such laws other than common sense! It should also be noted here that prior to this date many other vessels had attempted similar crossings but often resulted in disaster or loss because no one knew how deep or wide the river systems were nor did anyone have charts or software capable of mapping these waters accurately! Consequently most crossings occurred during summer months when water levels were low making navigation difficult if not impossible! Finally note that much like today we take great pride in our history & celebration thereof thanks be unto God for His guidance throughout our journey thusfar~ !!
Lorain was founded in 1824 by a group of farmers who came from the town of Lima, Ohio. The town grew quickly and by 1830, it had a population of over 100 people. By 1840, the town had become an important regional center with a variety of businesses and residents. In 1851, Lorain became part of the United States and in 1907 it became part of the city of Cleveland.
