Lebanon, Ohio is a city in the Cuyahoga Valley region of Northeastern Ohio. The population was 21,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Geauga County. Lebanon was founded by families from Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1812 as a small community on the Scioto River in what is now Geauga County. The first school was built in 1814 and by 1830, there were four schools in Lebanon. In 1835 the town had a population of 100 and by 1840 it had grown to 300 people with two stores and three churches. In 1846, John Hulbert became mayor and he directed that all businesses should have their own post office which they did. The first telephone service was available in Lebanon in 1865. In 1860, because of railroad construction through the area, some residents decided to move into neighboring Warren Township so that they could enjoy more direct access to jobs within Cincinnati (the railroads were then delivering materials directly to businesses). By 1870, when Lebanon's population reached 1,500 people again it had five stores and twelve churches with one high school. The early years of this century were difficult for Lebanon as many farmers went out of business during the Great Depression while others lost their farms due to Dust Bowl conditions brought about bysevere winters across much of America. However things changed after World War II when mills closed and new employment opportunities opened up throughout northeastern Ohio thanks to government projects such as Interstate 75 (now known as I-71) which connected Cleveland and Akron; these advancements helped promote economic growth throughout eastern Ohio during this period dubbed "The Middle Ages." In 1955, Air Force Base Beech Grove moved from Lucasville to be closer to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport making Beirut an even more important center for military aviation activity within northeastern Ohio; however despite this development AFB Beech Grove would remain until its closure in 1996 following adjustments made at George Washington University's Lewis Field location nearby which made Bean Grove less necessary since large USAF activities now took place at Wright-Patterson AFB instead (at that time Dayton's major airport). Today Lebanese has become one of most vibrant cities located just minutes away from downtown Cincinnati via public transportation or automobile/bike rides on busy streets like Vine Street which lead directly into downtown Bengals revitalized neighborhoods like Overlook Park & Springdale Village where new apartment complexes are being designed overlooking Main Street - once home to many factories & warehouses - giving Lebanese an edge over attached suburbs like Dayton for quality living options close enough for shopping but not too close for convenience or easy access to malls etc...
