National Guard gifts have been a part of the Lebanese and Ohio community for many years. Gifts from the Guards have helped to support various programs and events within our communities. In 1939, Lebanon began its involvement in World War II when the United States declared war on Germany. The Lebanese Army was mobilized and ordered to fight in Europe. As a result, many national guard gifts were given to members of the military. In 1945, Lebanon became an American ally in World War II and received numerous donations from the United States government. These donations included rifles, ammunition, vehicles, tanks, missiles, airplanes and other supplies. Throughout the years there have been many changes to how National Guard gifts are being given. Some people believe that it is important for members of the military to get something back as a gift once they serve their country. Others believe that donated items should be used more efficiently or redistributed into local communities instead of just being put into storage or given away as individual gifts. The National Guard of Lebanon, Ohio was organized on July 1, 1916. The regiment was raised at Sandusky, Ohio. On December 15, 1916 the regiment became the 9th Infantry Regiment of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I. They served in France and Belgium and were mustered out on April 6, 1919.
Lebanon, Ohio is a small town located in the Metro Cleveland area of Ohio. It is bounded by the towns of Euclid and Bridgeport to the south, Strongsville to the north, and Mentor to the east. The population was 5,834 as of 2010. The first settlers in Lebanon were farmers who arrived in 1814. By 1860, Lebanon had a school and two churches. In 1865, an institution called The Lebanon School was established which served grades one through twelve. In 1903, Lebanon voters approved a $5 per capita tax for school aid which funded schools from that year on. Over time, more than twenty schools have been built in Lebanon including three high schools (Lebanon High School; Shia Temple High School; Trinity High School), two middle schools (Stroud Middle School; Glenwood Middle School), and one elementary school (Crawford Elementary). The old high school building now houses the Lebanon County Juvenile Detention Center. Lebanon is home to several businesses such as Gateway Tire & Equipment Co., The Colony Bakery & Cafe', Bob's Goldmine Casino Resort & Racetrack,the Palestine Dairy Store,'Pepsi-Cola Refreshment Stand'and numerous restaurants including Lebanese Catering Company.'Dollar General',' Lowe's Home Hardware',' Subway sandwich shop',' Husson Pharmacy.'"

In 1821, the first national guard unit was organized under the authority of Congress. At that time, only militia units were authorized to be raised by law. In 1862, however, President Abraham Lincoln authorized an army of one million guardsmen to be raised for service in the Union armies. This large force quickly became necessary as the Civil War began and troops were needed throughout the nation. Throughout the years, the Guardsmen have played an important role in American society. They are known for their courage and devotion to duty, and their support of democracy and freedom. Today, they continue to play a vital role in our justice system and economy.

Lebanon, Ohio is a small town located in the Trumbull County area of central Ohio. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Muncie, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lebanon was founded in 1807 by General James Wilkinson as a post office on the Scioto River. In 1819, it became a town and was named for Lebanon, PA (present-day West Lebanon). The community gained its name from its location on the Scioto River between Mentor and trumbull Counties. The first store in Lebanon opened in 1865. A sawmill and grist mill were built early in Lebanons history; they closed around 1870. The first school was organized in 1875 and named after Mrs Jane Sibley of Mentor who donated land to build it. In 1901, Lebanon had two post offices: one at Weirton and one at Greencastle. In 1935, it had four post offices: three at Weirton (the last being discontinued that year), one at Greencastle (still extant), and one at Lancaster (closed that year). In 1941, Lebanon voted to become an independent city! On July 1st of that year, Beirut became an incorporated city with jurisdiction over all of Trumbull County except for unincorporated areas east of I-675 including parts of Sandusky and Medina counties which remained part of Palestine Township until 1959 when they were annexed into Trumbull County proper
