Lebanon, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. In 1812, they named their home "Lebanon" after Mount Lebanon in Syria which had been their ancestral home for centuries. In 1836, Lebanon became an Township under the jurisdiction of Ross County but retains its own government today with three branches: Mayor-Council; Police Department; and Library Board/Commissioner/Supervisor/Members). By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in Lebanon including Baptist missionaries from Tennessee who started to preach here about God's love for all people regardless of color or social class. In 1851, Lewis Hite organized a wagon train that traveled down the Great Lakes to Stoughtonfledged on November 12th Principal Chief Samuel Logan (a Shawnee) presented him with 10 acres (40 hectares) of land on what are now Brushy Fork Road and Spring Creek Drive near present day Uniontown as part of his treaty with the United States Congress disclaiming any ownership rights to Mexican land grants made during the Mexican–American War which he claimed as his personal property prior to becoming Principal Chief at age 21 years old on October 15th 1865 pursuant to Article XIII Section 4(c)(1) of Treaty No 8 between Mexico City and Washington D.C.. Lebanon, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the Dayton Valley. The town was founded in 1824 by George Robertson and named for his father, David Robertson. In 1868, James W. Hardin bought the land that now makes up Lebanon and built what is now the first store in the community. In 1870, John A. Brown donated land to make way for a courthouse and jail. The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence due to its location and strategic importance as a transportation hub on Lake Erie. By 1907, Lebanon had a population of 2,500 people and was home to four schools, two churches, one hospital, two stores, three banks and two breweries. By 1912 it had reached 5,000 people and boasted five hotels and twelve businesses including several grocery stores and dairy farms. During World War I (1914-18), Lebanon enlisted in service with distinction waving American flags from railroad cars at various military engagements throughout Europe while also manufacturing munitions for their country’s war effort. After the war ended following Armistice Day 1918 celebrations across America which included speeches by Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D Roosevelt among others, Beirut continued to thrive as an agricultural center with an estimated population of over 10K residents by 1920 census that included large numbers of refugees from Ottoman Turkey who had come to escape what they thought would be genocide perpetrated against them at the hands of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s Turkish government
Lebanon, Ohio was founded in 1825 by John Fenton and his family. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of around 100 people. In the 1840s, Lebanon acquired its first school and began to develop into a small town. By 1860, however, the Town had shrunk to just 10 residents and only one store. In 1868, Lebanon became the county seat of Columbiana County when it was established from parts of Vandalia County. The growth of the local economy led to increased development in Lebanon and other portions of Columbiana County. By 1880, there were over 150 businesses in Lebanon and over 1,000 residents. During this time period, Lebanon also attained municipal status which made it more self-reliant. In 1907, the United States Congress passed a law creating the University of Findlay which would become one of the largest educational institutions in Ohio. The university would become admired for its innovative teaching methods as well as its ability to attract high-quality students from all over America. Through education and industry partnerships, Findlay helped solidify Lebanese's role as an important community member on both sides of the Ohio River
