The station served as a temporary stop on the way to and from Lake Erie. It was located on the grounds of what is now known as York County Community College. However, over time the station grew and so did its donation program. From 1871 to 1931, local citizens donated more than $2 million towards the upkeep of the Coast Guard Station in Lancaster. Lancaster, Ohio is a city in northeastern Ohio and the county seat of Richland County. The population was 25,512 at the 2010 census. Lancaster was founded by General John Forbes on December 21, 1788 as a small village named for his birthplace, Loudoun County. Lancaster, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Springfield metropolitan area and is located about 25 miles west of Cincinnati, the state's capital. The town has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European contact. In 1795, Lancaster was founded as a trading post on the Great Miami River by Major George Rogers Clark and his associates under the leadership of Chief Wyandotte. Lancaster had an estimated population of 100 in 1800; however, this number may have been higher due to wagon traffic through its fertile soil and numerous springs that provided water for farming residents and traders alike. According to local legend, General Andrew Jackson stopped at Lancaster on his way downriver to battle General Wayne during the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1812 while traveling upstream from Fort Washington on Lake Erie. In 1814, Lancaster was chartered as an incorporated village by a group of land owners including Colonel John Cranch and Captain David Dixon with the purpose "of providing agricultural inducement for settler development." By 1830, over 200 people lived in Lancaster; most were farmers who raised corn and other crops along with their hogs, cows, horses and sheep; some also mined coal near what is now downtown Lancaster (the first coal mine in America was opened here in 1825). A millraceadan named James Dyson built a dam across Mill Creek so that he could produce power for light fixtures for homes back then – an activity that helped contribute significantly to township growth today. By 1860 there were 1125 residents living in Lancaster; many had moved there from nearby Dayton or Middletown because they believed it would be easier get ahead politically if they resided centrally within their own community rather than scattered throughout multiple townships outside their boundaries; like today many businesses are still headquartered here such as Macy's Department Store which opened its doors in 1904 after moving from Springfield Township (now Perrysburg) two years earlier! Lancaster was founded in 1795 by a group of Quaker settlers. The town grew rapidly, and by 1800 it had a population of over 100 people. In the early 19th century, Lancaster became an important center for trade and manufacturing. In 1814, the first railroad reached Lancaster, making it possible to export goods more easily. Lancaster's prosperity declined during the 1840s and 1850s because of recessionary factors such as low prices for agricultural products and Decreasing demand from European immigrants. However, the town began to experience growth in the 1860s when cotton production increased in southern Ohio due to new machines that made it easier to produce textiles on large scale. In 1871, Lancaster became one of the original 20 towns in Ohio which joined together to form the United States Interstate Commerce Commission (USIC). This allowed Lancaster to become a major transportation hub for eastern Ohio. The town continued to grow during this time, with factories opening up along Route 66 which connected Lancaster with Cincinnati and other cities. By 1910, Lancaster had a population of over 300 people and was an important industrial center.
