The Lancaster Air National Guard's 9th Bomb Wing and 1st Fighter Wing are responsible for deploying fighter jets to support military operations in the geographic area around Lancaster. The wing is also responsible for providing air defense for the city of Lancaster and its surrounding communities. The 9th Bomb Wing was activated on October 1, 1942 as a medium bomber squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It flew Boeing B-17s and delivered munitions to Allied war efforts during World War II. After the war, the squadron transitioned to Boeing A-24L Superfortress aircraft and played an important role in Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944. The wing served as a strategic bombardment unit during various campaigns throughout the postwar years before being disbanded on September 30, 1951. The 1st Fighter Wing was activated on December 12, 1941 as a fighters squadron at Roswell Army Airfield. It operated Lockheed P-38 Lightning pilots during World War II. Inactivated on September 30, 1951 due to budget cuts. In 1948, then LtCol USAF James Estrin became commander of newly activated 9th Bombardment Group (Lightnings) at Langley AFB which had been stationed there since 1942 with B-25 Mitchells & B-26 Marauders equipped with Allison Vultures & North American P-51 Mustangs respectively; these units were used for propaganda purposes by USAAF Headquarters Northwest Europe in order to build up morale of British/Canadian troops fighting against Germany near Calais Airport; these groups also provided air cover for task force Torch which landed at Normandy beaches on July 8 1944

The Lancaster Air Force Museum’s deployment gift history began on Dec. 5, 1941 when the United StatesAAF placed a gift in the care of Mrs. Lois Lawson of Lancaster, Ohio. The airplane was donated to the museum by Mr. and Mrs. William Prentiss, who also served as founding trustees of the museum. On Feb. 6, 1942, the gift was moved from Mrs. Lawson’s home to an airfield location in nearby Youngstown for storage and research purposes pending shipment back to America for permanent display in the Lancaster Air Force Museum’s collection! On Nov. 8, 1948, following restoration by volunteers led by Lt. Col Harry Houda at Lackland AFB TX., the airplane became operational as Serial No “5-4101” with 336th FG (First Fighter Wing) based at Wright-Patterson AFB OH! On Jan 18th 1959 it was transferred back to its original training base: RAF Lakenheath OTUS UK! From there until disbanding on Jun 3rd 1966 it served with 83rd FS (Air Defense Command) at Chanute AFB IA! In 1969 during a reorganization within USAF Wings organization elements were reassigned throughout USAF which affected squadrons and aircraft assigned numbering etc….. accordingly 5-4101 became 05-4011 while located at Lakenheath UK it continued being part of 83rd FS but no longer flying under that number…. finally being retired due to loss of fuel capacity on Jul 1st 1971!!!
Lancaster is a city in southern Ohio and is the county seat of York County. The population was 453,567 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-most populous city in Ohio. Lancaster is also the home of The University of Pennsylvania and Lancaster College. It lies on the Susquehanna River, about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh and 50 miles southwest of Cleveland on Interstate 80. The first settler in what would become Lancaster was David Wilson in 1795. By 1800, there were over 130 businesses operating in the town. In 1801, John Denny founded Denny's Brewery which became one of America's leading brewing companies. In 1814, Lancaster became part of the Unionist Party during the American Civil War because its mayor chose to not secede from Ohio despite being asked to do so by his peers within his party. Afterward, Lancaster prospered as a manufacturing center with lead smelting becoming an important industry. However, during World War I production halted due to shortages caused by importation quotas imposed by Europe; however resumed later when war shifted focus away from munitions and towards fighting trench warfare across France and Germany In 1938, after years of planning led by Mayor David Lappin Jr., Lancaster was designated as host city for Expo '38 which brought together various nations from around the world for two weeks at that time including China and Japan who both made their first visits to United States soil since opening their embassies here just three years earlier During World War II much activity centered around manufacturing plants where steel production began outputing more than 1 million tons per year until 1945 when it peaked at 2 million tons Lancaster has seen many changes throughout its long history; some that have been positive include increased job opportunities for local residents during lean times such as during Watergate (); rapid redevelopment following 9/11 (the first major terrorist attack on U.S soil) due to Lowy Services' purchase Today Lancaster remain an economically vibrant community with strong ties to its surrounding communities providing access to quality education and services while maintaining a culture which encourages creativity and innovation

In 1916, the first high school for students from rural areas opened in Lancaster after being moved from Findlay Township. In 1951, Lancaster became part of the newly formed University of Akron City School District; however, it remained an independent municipality until 2003 when it joined Metropolitan Cleveland School District Number One. Lancaster has had many notable residents over its history including: General David Petraeus (4th Army Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom), Congressman George Voinovich (R-Ohio), Neil Armstrong (the first human to walk on the moon), as well as actress Elizabeth Banks and entrepreneur Dave Matthews Band founder Dave Matthews himself
In 1810, the area that is now Lancaster was part of what was then called the Northwest Territory. The territory was created from parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. In 1812, the Northwest Territory became a state when it was split off from Ohio. Lancaster is one of the oldest towns in this state and it first appeared on maps in 1795.
