Lakewood is a small town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by settlers in 1824 and named for Lakewood Manor, a home built by General Jonathan Dayton. The first post office in the community was established in 1830. At that time it had a population of just three people. By 1840, the population had grown to twenty-one people and it became a village on February 15, 1845. On November 12, 1850, the village changed its name to Lakewood Township because of an act of the Ohio General Assembly which designated Butler as the county seat of Ohio. The township straddled both sides of what is now called Green Road and contained only about two-thirds of present-day Lakewood. On January 1, 1903, residents voted to change their name back to Lakewood Township after incorporation into Butler County as a result of an act by then-Governor John Fenton Daniel Boone III (). Lakewood, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,421 at the 2000 census. It takes its name from Lake Erie and Cleveland's main water supply. The community was laid out in 1824 by John Davenport and surveyors James K. Polk and Elijah Ives. It originally consisted of a single block of land on the Scioto River between what is now First Avenue and Euclid Avenue. The area that would become Lakewood was first settled as part of Trumbull Township by German immigrants in the late 17th century. By 1800, it had reached its present size. In 1824, John Davenport surveyed a parcel of land along the Scioto River for a new town to be named after his wife Sarah (Davenport) Stephenson; this township would eventually become Trumbull County. Davenport designed the town's first building-the gristmill which he built himself-and laid out its streets and other features with his own hands. In 1830, residents of what is now Lakewood voted to annex parts of neighboring Greenfield Township (now part of Cleveland). This annexation created a second town within Trumbull County: Lakewood Heights/Lakewood proper. The original village boundaries are still seen today nearFirst and Euclid Avenues in central Lakewood; they encompass most of what is now Little Italy within walking distance of most businesses and services found there today (though much has changed since then). At one time home to only about 100 residents, Lakeshore Boulevard running southwest from downtown served as both commercial center for the new town’s industry as well as social & cultural hub for locals & visitors alike until it was truncated by Interstate 81 when the freeway was built nearby in the early 1990s (& replaced again with an additional boulevard currently known as Broadway). The demise of local manufacturing throughout post-war America spelled doom for many small towns like Lakeshore during those years; however, things began to change following World War II when large numbers of veterans started moving into newly developed suburbs such as Cleveland .Many people who were once employed outside their homes or working remotely also started relocating back inside where they could live close to their families & continue contributing to local economies despite some challenges like high housing prices (& lack thereof) initially posed by suburban areas becoming increasingly available than rural ones due largely to control over transportation infrastructure via interstate highways
Lakewood was founded in 1795 by a group of Ohio pioneers. The city was named for the large body of water that separates Cleveland from Cincinnati. In 1815, Lakewood became the seat of government for what is now Butler County. In 1824, the United States Congress passed a bill creating Wayne County out of Miami Township in Butler County. However, when the county was established, no one lived in Wayne County and it had no economic value. In 1830, Cleveland voters approved a resolution requesting that Lakewood be renamed for former president George Washington as part of an effort to promote northwestern Ohio culture to easterners. Washington eventually visited Lakewood and pronounced it "a very beautiful place."
