Lakewood coffee began as a small family-owned coffee shop in the heart of downtown in 1984. In 2006, Lakewood Coffee became the first roastery and cafetaria in the Cleveland market to offer single origin coffee. Today, we continue to source our beans from around the world and roast them fresh each morning. Our café is open daily 7am-11pm and offers delicious breakfast items such as ours, sandwiches, salads, pastas, drinks and desserts. Lakewood is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the border of Lake Erie and Geauga County. The population was 24,769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Lakewood was on a small island in Geauga Creek called "Island Inlet". The name originated with General George Washington's troops who thought it resembled an Acquia word meaning "settle." They named their new town after Gen. Washington's headquarters, Fort Detrick (later Arlington), Maryland. In 1811, John Elliott opened the first store in what became known as downtown Lakewood when he and his brother-in-law Michael De Witt purchased land from Nicholas Wright for $1 per acre (about $ today). By 1814, there were 10 stores in downtown Lakewood and 50 people living there. A post office was established at this location on July 1, 1816 under the name "Elliottville." By 1830, about 100 people were living in what would become known as east Park Avenue; by 1840 that number had reached 350 and by 1850 it had increased to 500 people. The railroad arrived in1875 and changed everything – shopkeepers gave up their monopoly on trade to compete with railroads across America which created new opportunities for businesses such as grocery stores, breweries and lumber mills. At one point over 20 different industries operated within a few blocks of each other! Lakewood, Ohio is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,848 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Miami and Erie Canal in the southern part of Trumbull County. The canal was built in 1825 to bring goods from Erie to Cleveland. Lakewood is known for its The town was founded by James Caldwell and others on the site of what is now called Caldwellsville after high-water mark of Canalexandria Creek on March 12, 1792; it originally extended only to a point near modern day Troy. In 1798 it became part of Trumbull County when that county was created from parts of Geauga and Lucas counties. In 1827, the canal made it possible for residents of eastern Trumbull County (partly because Trumbull had already banned slavery) to go into western Lucas County without going through Cleveland or Chillicothe. This development led to the name change from Caldwellsville to Lakewood in 1830. The first store opened in Lakewood on February 4, 1830 with Wm Ladd as proprietor. By 1840 there were seven stores and twenty-eight people living in Lakewood; by 1850 there were twelve stores and fifty-six people living there
The first white people to live in the area that is now Lakewood were Nicholas and Rebecca Jones. They moved from Pennsylvania in 1795. The town was named for John Lockwood, a U.S. congressman from Ohio who was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr on November 2, 1804. Lakewood began as a small town of around 100 people in 1836. By 1850, it had grown to over 1,000 residents and became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1892, the citys first water system was built and by 1907 it had an electric light installation. In 1923, Lakewood voters passed a referendum approving annexation by the city of Cleveland. The vote ended years of struggle between Cleveland and Lakewood over which municipality would have jurisdiction over the two townships that made up the village - Cleveland had wanted to annex both villages while Lakewood wanted just Lakeside Township (which includes present-day EngleWOOD). In 1954, when Euclid Avenue was widened into four lanes for Interstate 80 traffic, one lane was added at each end of Euclid Boulevard so that traffic could flow through town without stopping at intersections or going through blocks of homes like it did today. This change meant that more people started moving into Lakewood from suburbs outside of Cleveland – which led to its nickname "TheTown Where Everything Happens." On July 8, 1998, local resident Rick Santorum announced he would run for Congress against Rep.(D-OH)1997 Chris Smithwick in what became known as TheRickster rematch campaign cycle; this race ultimately resulted in Santorum becoming Governor of Pennsylvania during President Bill Clinton's term as President after Smithwick lost his re-election bid on December 3rd 1998
