The U.S. Army's gift history in Lakewood, Ohio began with the organization of the local military post in 1848. The first items purchased by the Post were saddles and other horse equipment, which were used for militia duty. In 1865, the Post became an infantry regiment and was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in 1971. On 1 July 1997, Headquarters and Service Command (HSC) activated 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Benning, Georgia as part of Commander-in-Chief United States Army Forces Europe (CENTCOM). Since its activation, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team has participated in a number of operations including Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II; Operation Enduring Freedom III; Global War on Terror II;Operation Noble Eagle; Afghanistan War I & II; Desert Storm I & II and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is now one of fourteen brigade combat teams that make up CENTCOM Region 5 headquartered at Ft Polk, Louisiana. As an integral part of CENTCOM Regional Command 5homeland region supporting multilateral coalition forces engaged in counterinsurgency warfare throughout Central America and Southwestern Europe this brigadeCombatTeam is able to contribute both offensively and defensively through their partners within CENTCOM Region 5 area of responsibility providing security for members deployed abroad or conducting counterterrorism missions within our borders

Lakewood is a small town in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Daytona Beach, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Lakewood were dating back to the 1790s when Great Lakes traders and travelers visited this area on their way to and from Detroit. In 1814, John Crain built a log cabin on the eastern edge of present-day Lakewood. The community quickly grew with the arrival of settlers from other parts of Ohio and Michigan Territory. By 1830, all but one of Lakewood's original homes had been built. In 1836, Cleveland businessman Peter Kieft bought land east of town for $5 per acre (or £2 at today's prices). Kieft named his new community after himself – Cleveland Township – in order to give it more stability and make it easier for him to manage his properties. Over time, other investors followed suit and began calling their new townships by different names: Rossville Township (1851), Hubbardstown Township (1853), Defiance Township (1855), Fairview Heights Township (1860), Highland Park Township (1862) and finally Lakewood Township (June 15th, 1868). By 1870, however, only about 50 residents lived in Lakewood proper while its surrounding communities boasted 2-3 times that number. It wasn't until 1916 that telephone service arrived within township boundaries making Lakewood an even smaller village by comparison! During World War II many local businesses closed due to wartime shortages but many others turned out to be key members ofthe local economy such as Jardine Rubber Company which manufactured tires; Beechcraft Aviation Corporation which manufactured aircraft parts; Maytag Corporation which made kitchen appliances; McCormick & Stratton who fabricated cast iron products; Nucor Steelworks which produced sheet metal products; Phillips Electrical Products which made light fixtures etc.; Igloo Manufacturing Company which made ice cream cones etc.; among others….Today there are just five remaining businesses left in the township…..One such business still operates: Wards Auto Body Shop where they repair vehicles both old and new! Lakewood is a city in and the county seat of Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city's history dates back to 1824 when it was founded by fur traders John Dix and James Krieger as a trading post on the Great Miami River near modern-day Akron. In 1827, it became a town and was named for Lakewood Hill in Middlesex County, England. The name "Lakewood" again appeared on maps in 1881 when the Ashland Railroad constructed a line through town from Toledo to Akron. In 1915, the village of Sheffield merged with Lakewood; Sheffield had been formed in 1901 when parts of both villages were annexed by Lakewood. On July 1, 1922, all townships except Sheffield (except part of Mansfield Township) merged into one municipality under the name of "Lakewood". On October 1, 1923 - two days after being renamed - all other municipalities within township boundaries also amalgamated into "Lakewood". On January 25th, 1926 - three years after its incorporation - "Lakewood" became an unincorporated community within Union Township. On December 7th 1937 - less than two months after becoming an unincorporated community - "Lakewood" became a full-time municipality with 10 districts named for individual mayors: Arthur Clegen (1937-1945), Harry Acheson (1945-1951), Floyd Denny (1951-1963), Everett Dirksen (1963-1969), Clifford Berryhill (1969-1974), Albert Shanker (1974-1981). These mayors represented different areas within the municipality which included various industries such as manufacturing plants and agricultural holdings outside of town limits. In 1978-'79 voters passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by neighboring Lorain Township which would have Included much of present day Defiance Heights/Beverly Hills Estates/Belleview Park and most portions of what are now Elyria Heights/Lakeside Village/Quincy Market Place along with much smaller portions including those currently located in Brookline Village/Niles Center while still retaining many core functions associated with "Lakewood". However this annexation never took place due to opposition from residents within lakefront neighborhoods who felt that their neighborhoods would be lost if they were annexed into another municipality without their consent or representation
Lakewood was founded in 1792 by Captain George Rogers Clark. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, due to its location on the Scioto River and its access to timber and trade. By 1821, Lakewood had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1824, Henry Clay helped found the Ohio State University in Cleveland. During the 1840s and 1850s, Lakewood became an important transportation center for goods travelling from the eastern United States to Ohio. In 1875, John Pemberton built the first water-powered flour mill in America at what is now 1500 block of East Main Street.
