Kettering, Ohio is a small town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,925 at the 2010 census. Kettering is one of the oldest towns in Morrow County and was founded by John Kettering in 1796. It became a village on February 14, 1802. On July 6, 1813, it attained its present form as an incorporated town when it united with nearby Waverly to form the new township of Waverly andkettering combination. The first post office in Kettering opened on November 12, 1815. The first store in Kettering was built by James Ahern and his brother-in-law David Hillyer on Main Street. In 1826–1827, George Stephenson built the first rail line through kettering which connected the city of Cincinnati with Toledo via the Toledo Canal
The city of Kettering, Ohio was founded in 1824 by a group of Methodists. The city was named after the Reverend John Wesley who helped found the Methodist church here. The city grew quickly and by 1830 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1832, Kettering became the county seat of Mahoning County. The city experienced growth again in the 1840s and 1850s as new businesses opened up and progress was made on many local projects such as building a public library and improving roads. However, economic development stagnated during this time and Kettering struggled to keep up with other growing cities. By 1860, kettering's population had shrunk to just over 30 people and by 1870 it had only 10 residents remaining. In 1865, Kettering joined the United States as part of the Union side in the American Civil War. The war led to increased demand for goods produced in Ohio due to military supplies being shipped through the port of Cleveland - this caused some problems forkettering which were exacerbated by its location on an international border. As a result, kettering lost much business during wartime, though it did manage to build up its infrastructure so that it could continue producing goods despiterelocation costs. After the war ended in 1865, kettering slowly started recovering from its wartime losses but still lacked significant growth until 1890 when it resumed its previous level of activity with an increase in population (to around 150) thanks largely to immigration from Hungary and other parts of Europe . During these years there were several major events that affected kettering; both good news and bad news arrived here at various times including: construction of Browns Ferry Dam (1895), opening of General Motors assembly plant (1914), prohibition (1920), World War II (1939-1945), etc.. Despite these challenges, ketting managed to stay relatively stable throughout most periods; however things changed radically during World War II when production declined significantly due to rationing policies set in place by Franklin D Roosevelt as part of his New Deal plan aimed at increasing national revenue during wartime
