As word spread about Webster's purchase, dozens more people began buying parcels until by 1840 there were over 100 properties within what would become kettering proper - all but three belonging toWebster himself! By 1850 – just 10 years afterketting had officially been born – it had outgrown its original boundaries making way for current day Cuyahoga County! During prohibition era (1921-1933), kettering quickly became one of America’s largest suppliers of liquor to bootleggers across the Great Lakes region stretching from Buffalo down into Illinois Territory! One local brewer even went so far as to open his own distillery right here on Main Street! After prohibition ended however, many businesses closed their doors due to economic hard times; however some such as Geiger’s grocery still stand today dotting Main Street corridor! The town was founded on a rich agricultural land that was soon to be developed into an industrial center due to its location at the intersection of two major railroads. Kettering quickly became a center for manufacturing and agriculture, with mills and cheese factories producing everything from flour to paper to shoes. The town's economic development led to growth in social activity as well, with many small businesses opening up to serve the community. In 1912, Kettering was renamed Dayton after Mayor John D. On October 3, 1810, the Ohio General Assembly passed a bill establishing Kettering as an unincorporated community in Medina County. The town was named after Colonel John Kettering, an American Revolutionary War officer who served in the Battle of Fallen Timbers.
