The United States Army deployed gift history in Kettering, Ohio during World War II. The Kettering Gift Shop was the first business to sell military gifts while the city was still under occupation by the Japanese. The store was a hub for soldiers and their families who came to purchase items such as food, clothing, and equipment. Throughout the war, the store continued to sell products and services to soldiers and their families. After the war ended, many of the servicemen who had served in Europe or Japan returned home. Some of these men were fresh off of service and needed new things to keep them busy. Others decided that they would like to start their own businesses after being discharged from the military. One of these men was Harry Kapp, who started The Kapp Store in Kettering after his discharge from the army in 1945. The Kapp Store became one of the most successful stores in town because it offered a wide variety of products at low prices for active duty troops and their families. The store also became known for its delicious hot dogs which were popular with troops and their families during wartime years. In 1961, Harry Kapp passed away but his son John kept running the store until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1991, John's daughter Tracy Turnquist took over management of The Kapp Store until her death in 2006. Today, there is still a small branch located on Highland Drive near downtown Kettering that sells items related to military history such as clothing, books, medals, audio recordings, etc..

Kettering is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,515 at the 2010 census. Kettering is the county seat of Stark County and the second most populous municipality in Stark County after Middletown. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kettering were French traders working in the area around 1768. The town was founded on May 2, 1811 by James Prentice and others as a post office with the name of " Miami". It became a village on October 10, 1825 when all of Crawford Township west of the Scioto River became part of Kettering. On December 15, 1829, it became a city under the charter granted to it by Governor George Clinton. The population had grown to over 3,000 by 1840 when General John Custer's Indian Wars destroyed much of east-central Ohio. When Cleveland was founded in 1846, kettering followed suit andbecame its first incorporated city limits With an economy based largely on agriculture until about 1930—when industry began to grow—kettering experienced one significant boom and bust during its history; however this has not significantly affected its overall demographics or character. Kettering is a city in and the county seat of Lake County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,621 at the 2010 census. Kettering is home to the Kettering College of Business Administration and Technology. The area that would become Kettering was first settled by the Algonquian-speaking Shawnee in 1788. The town was founded on the corner of Third and State Streets by Colonel George Washington's Regiment of volunteers during the Northwest Indian War. In 1812, General Anthony Wayne's army destroyed an Iroquois village near present-day Kettering after retreating from Canada after Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1814, General David Ewing's Brigade burned down much of what is now Kettering when they captured Fort Erie on Lake Erie during the Battle of Detroit. In 1830, Ohio Governor Thomas Denny set aside land for a college in what is now Kettering with money he had received from US Senator Nicholas Biddle as part of his efforts to promote education in Ohio. The college opened its doors to students on October 24, 1830 under the name "Ohio Wesleyan University". It moved to its current location on Prospect Street in 1904 when it merged with other colleges and universities statewide as Case Western Reserve University (now Cleveland Institute of Arts and Sciences). In 1933, Case Western Reserve University became Rickover National Laboratory which continues to operate today as one component of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center complex located adjacent to Mount Hope Cemetery in Greenville Township outside Pittsburgh PA.. The university closed its doors effective September 30th following years fullfilled with growth while still maintainendo many traditions such as Convocation Ceremony where Graduates Senior Class Drinks were served followed by a program designed especially for them including: tea time/dinner time followed by exhibits/lectures etc... On November 15th 2013 ketters Colleen Cook gave her keynote address about “Saving Our Schools: Paths Forward” She outlined how there are ways that private companies can invest money into public school districts across America through directly contributing cash or providing services such as technology consultant or teacher training provider....... The town of Kettering, Ohio was founded in 1824 by James Fenton. The town grew rapidly due to the local fur trade and its location near the Great Lakes. In 1828, the town voted to become a city and it did so in 1830. The city gradually lost population due to pollution from industries located nearby and the lack of commercial opportunities. In 1957, Kettering became an open-air shopping mall when it was combined with neighboring towns of Oxford and Parkersburg.
