In 1840, Edwin Griggs started to roast coffee for business customers at his home on Beech Street near downtown Akron. By 1850, there were more than fifty cafes across central Ohio serving coffee with various flavors such as chocolate and vanilla sauce added to it.
Kent, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Muskegon County. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to settle in Kent were French traders and missionaries who founded a fur trading post on the Ottawa River in 1792. The town was platted in 1803 by John Dutton as part of a larger land grant to Joseph Greenough from James Kapp and others. It became a village in 1824, when it amalgamated with nearby East Muskegon Township to form what would become Muskegon Heights Township. In 1828, George Stephenson built his steamboat navigation company's first shipping canal through Kent and other townships near Mackinac Island for transportation of goods from Toledo to Detroit via the Great Lakes system. In 1830, he built his famous locomotive engine "The Rocket" at Woodward Workshops in downtown Muskegon Heights Township; this helped stimulate commercial development around downtown Muskegon Heights that continues today with several small businesses located there including Jardine’s ice cream and Paper Mate pencil products fame In 1850, construction began on Gratiot Avenue (now Main Street), which eventually led to the town becoming an important rail center for central Michigan shipped goods such as coal and lumber eastward over the Rt 22 bridge across I-95 until they reached Cincinnati via Amtrak's "Stroudsburg - Cleveland" service starting on May 15th 1958 Shortly after World War II ended in 1945, many American servicemen returned home following their tour of duty overseas; some found work quickly while others took time off to find new homes or start families back home On September 24th 1951, Kent Municipal Airport opened for business after years of planning by Mayor Harry Sieverstedt with help from area businessmen Edward Weingarten and Homer Lambert On November 1st 1957 voters approved a referendum granting cityhood to Kent due to its growing population along with other issues faced by neighboring communities that had not yet given up their status as villages

The first school in the town was built in 1812. In 1815,Daniel Kent died, and his wife Betsy took over leadership of the town. She served as mayor from 1816 to 1830. In 1830, she retired from public life and moved to her home on Canal Road where she lived until her death in 1840. In 1840, a new courthouse was built near what is now River Street in what is now Lima. The building served as thetown's court house until 1907 when it was replaced by an larger building which still stands today at 5th Avenue and Canal Road
