In 1810, the Ohio militia was organized and began serving in local militias. The Guard's first act as an arm of government was during the Raid on Sandusky by General George Washington in 1794.

Ironton, Ohio is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the nearby Ironton Dam and its namesake Ironton Lake. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Ironton were sons of George Weadock and his wife Sarah Jane Whitehead. George Weadock had come to America in 1795 with his father and brother-in-law, Daniel Boone. He founded what became known as Whitehead Township in 1812 on landPurchase from Colley Bailey of Lexington Township (now Westlake). Ironton Dam was completed in 1912 by the Franklin D Roosevelt Administration as part of a larger project to improve water supplies for Akron and other cities in central Ohio. The dam formed the eastern border of Summit County and is now part of the National Whitewater Center Visitor center complex on Canfield Drive near Ironton Lake. In 1915 David Ladd founded Dayton-based advertising agency WLADD which became one of the most successful agencies between Dayton and New York City during that era. In 1926 he merged his company with Children's Advertising Company to form WLADD/Children's Advertising Company Incorporated which still exists today as one of North America's largest children's advertising firms. In 1934 WLADD merged with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., becoming Brown & Williamson Marketing Corporation. During World War II, many states merged their militias into one large military organization known as The United States Military Forces (USMF). As part of USMF, each state had its own National Guard units that were responsible for providing security for local areas and conducting other duties assigned by USMF commanders. Because of this mixture of volunteer and commissioned forces, there is no single national guard history or story covering all aspects of militia service throughout history. However, there are some key elements that lie at the heart of most militia histories: voluntaryism versus government control; training and drill; conflict with other forms of law enforcement; networking with other organizations; exposure to new technologies; and public response to mobilization calls/events. Ironton, Ohio is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,603 at the 2010 census. Ironton is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Ironton was John Hutton who arrived in 1792. John's son David Hutton founded the village of Heidelberg in 1812 and named it for his father-in-law, Johannes Heidelberg von der Ostenfeldt. In 1814 David married Anna Maria Lapp who had settled in what is now Mohawk Township that year. In 1815 Ironton became a village when all of Muskingum County were organized as villages under the direction of the General Assembly ofOhio. The Village Act required each town to have a board of trustees to manage its affairs and provide for public schools and other municipal needs such as fire service and street lighting. Ironton has developed into one of the most important agricultural towns in central Ohio with over 100 years of history including: Archer Farms Dairy; First National Bank; Kmart; PNC Financial Services; Waffle House; American Legion Post #1 (now known as Butler Post #3); Ironton Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue Squad;Muskingum County Historical Society Museum - housed on Main Street since 1904

Ironton was founded in 1795 by surveyors, and became a town in 1824. It was named for Ironton Township, Pennsylvania, which at the time included much of Ohio. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the Great Lakes and railroad stations. In 1852 it merged with the neighboring village of Allen to form the city of Ironton.
