Ironton, Ohio is home to the Maga Coffee Company. The coffee company was founded in 1892 by George W. Maga and his wife, Maggie. The Magas started out roasting beans on their family farm in Ironton Township. From there they started selling their beans at local grocery stores and convenience stores. In 1916, the company moved its roasting operations to a new location in downtown Ironton. The company continued to grow and expand throughout the 1930s and 1940s. In 1951, the Magas decided to sell their business to Harry Jelinek and his son-in-law John Kappelbach. At this point, Maga Coffee was one of the largest coffee companies in America with over 1,000 employees across five locations nationwide. Maga Coffee survived World War II and the postwar period of economic prosperity that followed it. During the early 1970s, a group of entrepreneurs who were interested in starting a small business outside of traditional channels such as retail succeeded in buying up all of George W.Maga's shares in Maga Coffee Corporation for $2 million dollars (adjusted for inflation). This group named themselves "The moguls" and began expanding into other businesses such as manufacturing CD players, software development services, bookstores and even fast food restaurants ( eventually becoming known as "Maga Burger"). The first coffee shop in Ironton was opened by the husband and wife team of John and Barbara Frantz in 1974. The store was located on Main Street, just east of the present day Ironton Municipal Court. The store became known for its roasted beans and hand-drawn coffee menus. In 1978, Frantz decided to close her business after a long career as a barista at local caterers Fox & Hound. In 1984, David Pritchard opened his own coffee shop in nearby Beechfield Heights. Pritchard's shop specialized in Iranian Coffee which he imported from Iran. In 1990, Anthony D'Angelo opened his own espresso shop called "D Angelo's" on North High Street in Ironton. This was the first espresso business in the town and featured Italian roast coffee beans from Italy. In 2002, Michael Giannini reopened his original cafe called "Giannini's" on West Main Street had been closed since 1996 when Giannini moved to Findlay, Ohio to open his own restaurant there. From 2000 through 2006 Giannini operated also an online café which served both gourmet sandwiches and cappuccinos made with fresh bean ground at home with no chemicals or additives

Ironton is a small town in the heart of Ohio, located about 25 miles northeast of Columbus. The population was 9,879 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Franklin County metropolitan area. The first settlers to Ironton were farmers who arrived in 1811. Ironton was founded on an artificial island in the Scioto River and was named after John Ironton, a British military officer who had served in the American Revolution. In 1834, Ironton became an independent city and its first mayor was George Muhlenberg. In 1907, Ironton voters passed a resolution authorizing annexation by the City of Columbus; this action made Ironton a city-state within Columbus. In 1929, when Franklin County was created, Ironton became one of its five townships and remained so until it merged with neighboring unincorporated areas subject to county jurisdiction in 1974. Ironton has experienced heavy economic growth during both post-World War II periods: it annexed other communities ( such as Powellville) during these expansions while maintaining its own government and social services. The population reached 11,463 by 1990 and 13,521 by 2000; however, due to loss of businesses and housing values following Toledo's bankruptcy crisis that same year, revenue from sales taxes fell below what it once been able to bring in and incorporation fees have since ceased being paid to the city government outright. However, there are occasional efforts for annexation or for cities within Franklin County to amalgamate with Ironton through negotiation or referendum processes; as of 2016 no such petitions have been filed since 2010 partly because residents fear that if they did so their tax dollars would stop going into city coffers altogether). Ironton is a small city in the extreme northeast corner of Ohio, on the border of Indiana and Pennsylvania. The population was 20,811 at the 2010 census. It is one of the smaller cities in the United States and has a typical small-town feel with many residents who know each other well. The city began as an agricultural community, founded by Adam Weiser in 1827 on land he bought from the Suwanee River Indian Tribe. The community grew slowly until it was established as a town in 1846 by commissioners appointed by President James K. Polk to improve access to transportation and trade within what were then frontier territories. Ironton became a national postal center with its own post office and first public school in 1861.
