Gourmet Coffee History in Ironton, Ohio began with the construction of a coffee plantation in 1884. The first coffee beans were shipped to Cincinnati by wagon train. The beans were roasted and ground at the same location until 1907 when a new roasting and grinding facility was built. In 1924, Harry Cavanaugh opened his first Gourmet Coffee shop in Ironton. This business continued until 1969 when it was closed due to health concerns related to caffeine intake. From 1969-1982, the store was located on Monument Avenue across from the Catholic church. In 1982, Harry's son John took over running Gourmet Coffee and remains owner today. John has been responsible for continuing the family tradition of providing excellent customer service along with growing Gourmet Coffee into a global brand today.
